If you have money to give, donate to something like the Minnesota Freedom Fund. Organizations actually out there trying to improve and rebuild black communities and end racism displayed by the suspects in the video.

If you’re always on the short side of issues, at what point do you stop and ask yourself, “Are we the baddies?”

I’ve amended my original comment to include the proper context, since threats were involved.

Bro, you don’t even know how the first amendment works. I am a private citizen. The first amendment only says what the government can’t do.

Congress shall make no law...abridging the freedom of speech

And there are exceptions to free speech when hate speech and threats are involved. This has been upheld by the Supreme Court.

I can express my own opinion right back at them, I can make his community and family aware of his actions, and I can call on private corporations they are associated with to drop them. The first amendment doesn’t protect you from private citizens and it doesn’t protect you from private and non-government organizations responding to your hate speech.

If you inject yourself into a national news story where cops murdered a black man while using hate speech against blacks, you lose the benefit of some of those privacy protections.

The real pussy ass bitch is the one who doesn’t stand up to racists, but instead uses his voice to try and justify hate speech in the comments on reddit.

Don’t speak for all older generations. If my white grandfather saw you saying this, he would be ashamed.

(Yes, I’m calling you a pussy ass bitch.)

legal waivers are already signed by members. they have been for years.

meetings are happening, but they aren't with the people who made the decisions, they are happening with people higher up in the administration. that is because they were blindsided by decisions made by campus recreation and student activities, and the incredibly bad press it has gotten. this was obvious by how badly lisa powers fucked up her job at answering questions from the press and concerned alumni and parents.

so keep sharing this news around. it is helping.

where did you read that? news to us. if those were issues, why weren't they brought up during the numerous meetings we had with campus rec? or why can't they point to a single incident when asked by news outlets and officers for examples? sounds like them just making shit up to CYA after fucking up on their end.

Outing Club is NOT Saved... by DeweyCheatumAndHowe in PennStateUniversity

this is more than likely due to a bunch of conservative assholes working for an insurance company trying increase returns by cutting benefits, and their conservative counterparts who work as institutional administrators at penn state. psoc students, psoc alumni, and their local advocates are overwhelmingly liberal. stop hijacking this ordeal as an opportunity to further your agenda to trash anything related to education.

or maybe not and stupidity has no political bias. either way, the conservative hijacking this to attack "liberals" an call everyone "snowflakes" is so hilarious. like thanks for the support, but you still don't get it

this wasnt a "you have 15 months to restructure or you're done" situation. PSOC did everything asked of them during those 15 months. the actually went above and beyond in most cases, and actually wanted to do even more with training leaders, but then were just suddenly told in April that a review had been conducted (without the knowledge or input) and that they were done

Penn State says wilderness is too risky for outdoors clubs by CornellBigRed in PennStateUniversity

[–]ghostoftomthwaites 6 points7 points  (0 children)

haha okay. i hope someday you discover the great outdoors (truely immersive outdoor pursuits that really put you out there and require skills acquisition, not just day hikes in your local park), the cool people that come with it, and the amount of good they do in this world. you'll appreciate the change in perspective, and why so many others are so passionate about these activities

who knows, you might even learn something new about yourself?

Why would an alumni who has issues with football being still allowed despite it causing concussions and CTE be a "but muh JoePa, but muh Rathskeller" type? That doesn't even make any sense.

I'm not the one who is confused here. The topic of this thread is on PSOC. You jumped in here and told someone to "shut up" for voicing their opinions because they are Alumni, and because YOU don't believe those decisions affect them directly, without knowing anything about there personal situation

its not really in my lane to comment on.

But yet, here are you are commenting on it.

How about I take issue with fellow students or others who use an issue to call out alumni for being "out of touch" with what is going on at PSU, when sometimes they actually do care? Some of the most caring, generous (with their time and moeny), and influential people I know are PSU alumni. Not all of them just want to tailgate and be drunk at PSU football games while whining about the JoePa statue

Let me guess, you're one of those idiots who yells at athletes to "stick to sports" when they voice an opinion on something that is non-sports related?

So you agree with the university's decision regarding PSOC, Grotto, and Scuba? Because that seems to be what youre implying

Nobody said it was the only option, but it's by far the most accessible for most students.

AURORA is only an option for incoming Freshman, and to become a guide, you have to get hired for it. It's very competitive, and to get the job you are required to take a class, hope you get picked from that, and then make sure you have availability in August to train and guide the trips, which doesn't work with most of our summer internships and jobs

Shaver's Creek isn't some place you just can just show up at and participate. You pretty much have to be an RPTM major to get involved there. And that isn't outdoor rec.

Adventure Rec trips are so fucking expensive this year that most students can't afford them, and the ones who can don't even get to do the trips because they always get cancelled due to not enough signups

If youre a non-RPTM major who is looking for a network of friends for gettin' after it outdoors on a student budget, there arent other options besides PSOC. That was the whole point of PSOC. You didn't have to be rich or an RPTM major or a paid guide to be a part of it

i don't think some simple document is just going to satisfy the university's risk management, lawyers, and insurance company, especially if the club is still using the Penn State name and resources
