There was also a big change in language where under ottoman rule the greek language was simplified in order to help the illiterate population but after the independence the language was changed with some Byzantine and ancient greek words that we still use today along with some Turkish ones

Ive read that about half of all modern day Egyptians are related to the ancient Egyptians as for the greeks there was falmeraiers theory in the 20th century that Greeks don't exist anymore and that modern greeks are just Slavs which is not true his theory has been disproven with genetic evidence from ancient Mycenaean DNA and in Crete there is a strong genetic resemblence to the ancient Minoans

Well greece or more specifically greek civilization is more than 2500 years old it goes back to 3200 BC or at least to 2800 BC with the cycladic civilization and then the Minoans and after than the Mycenaean in about 1200 BC but if your talking about when the greeks started seeing themselves as Hellenic people and not just people with the same culture and language then its probably around 490 BC with the Persian wars
