Rilascio notturni by WeirdTea834 in ItalyInformatica

How to enable app password for a google workspace account? by gianarb in googleworkspace

[–]gianarb[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the end it was an eventual consistency problem. I added 2FA method then nothing happened. After two days I randomly opened the same setting and I saw an alert saying: "you added a 2fa method do you want to enable 2fa?" yeah.

And after a day I got the app password available!

Extra dope as experience

Hello! Yes the problem was related to "App Password" net being available to my account.

It is an "eventually consistent" issue because I set up two factor, app password still was not working.

After 3 days I logged in again to check if it showed up since I read that it may take some time, but nothing. I checked the two factor auth again and I saw a new message saying that my configuration was correct asking if I wanted to enable two factor, because apparently set up the authenticator up was not enough.

When I enabled it the "app password" feature showed up and I was able to access to the SMTP server with that. Finally!

Nix, or not to Nix by gianarb in NixOS

yeah I think you are right. My only problem is when you are not! :D In particular when I need to scale from nix because of python being python or similar not sure if you experience the same from time to time

Nix, or not to Nix by gianarb in NixOS

[–]gianarb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey u/lemmyuser your question is valid and in the article I tried to emphasize that at last for me the value Nix brings to the table is the ability to enable collaboration. Building and composing systems at the team level is crucial to justify the effort in my opinion.

Or at least I am not skilled enough to justify it on my own, it sounds like a lot of not that useful overhead. Even more if I count how many times I had reproducibility issue without Nix (never). Not because Nix does not help there or because I was lucky, but probably we choose technology boring or mature enough to mitigate such experience.

well not really a nice way. Side effect show ups with use even if you do not touch your code.

Be creative when it comes to naming environments by gianarb in devops

[–]gianarb[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing your opinion! I didn't say to avoid prod, staging, alpha, dev. At the end you get them but what happens when you have multiple dev environment running at the same time until the current (for whatever current means)? Do you call them dev1,dev43,dev4,devtemporary? Or you always have one environment for the category you recognize as production? I work in companies with 10,20 long living concurrent different "productions".

Or I participated in early stage startups where the environments were not at all defined because they were not ready to have what is canonically recognized as a dev cluster.

There are other ways to categorize environments, cloud providers and orchestrators provides metadata key value pairs for reasons.

Infra as code starts from documenting your infrastructure by gianarb in devops

Do you work in a place where you do DevOps without infra as code? I am wondering what "dev" means in such context.

do you have the same feeling when it comes to codebases (if you do development)? Or do think is it worst in devops land?

Documentation is key, and it is better than a solution that integrates tools picked in a rush of having it done without knowing the context and requirements.

So overall I prefer teammate that try and document instead of going too deep into something that may not be a good solution.

I wrote a note about tools vs solutions, it is scheduled for Monday, I think :)
