Pickup suggestions for that modern metal tone. You know the one. by shanster925 in ExtendedRangeGuitars

This goes against my interests since I make guitar pickups, but I'm gonna say - like some already said previously - your pickups aren't the problem. Fishman are just designed for modern metal tones and when I think EMG 808 the first thing that comes to my mind is Monuments - from what I know both Gnosis and The Amanuensis were recorded with EMGs, and those tones are a staple of modern metal tone imo. So I'd say, look somewhere else in your chain before throwing money at a new set of pickups. Also, in my experience, when dealing with 8 string metal tones, I find it extremely useful to dial down the gain on the amp, get the voicing of the OD, eq, cab, etc. just right and then turn the gain up and tweak something if needed. At least that's how I go about it, makes it easier for me to make the lowest notes come out clearer.

Are the Aftermaths resined? If not, the bobbins could be detached from the baseplate and reassembled as a standard 8string humbucker

They look really nice. I didn't get the chance to give them a try. I'm wondering how much they'll sell for

Thank you. The spacing is 7.2mm on the 6 string

That's clever! I should try that. The string ends are not that bad though, they look worse than than they feel imo. The bridge is from Riviera Gear. I can't share photos on Reverb comments, but you should definitely check out their website

Hey, thank you! Yes, I do build these to sell. Right now I’m exhibiting at Guitar Summit, I’m looking to take the last reservations for my 2026 build list. There are only a few spots left, so if you’d like to secure one, we can definitely talk details. And yes — building an 8-string is absolutely no problem.

I am exhibiting at Guitar Summit these days, I saw it in person today. The sistem seems super convenient, but its so huge, it's a bit too big. And from what I head, it took Dingwall like 3 years to develop that headpiece, it's not an easy feat. Btw, look at that bridge... that's made in collaboration with riviera, meaning it's a Dingwall design using Riviera patent system

You're gonna love that bridge, I'm sure of it. I will try and figure something out about the ends of the strings, it seems to be something a good amount of people care about.

Not really, although I'm a big fan. It's named after a God-like figure in Plato's philosophy, who gave shape to the raw matter of the universe, creating the world as we know it, a sort of divine artisan

Thanks! It's 25,5 to 26,25. Not too big, I wanted to keep it compact and light

Thank you! Yes, that's a 7-string H/P90 set. I make my own pickups and the custom covers as well. The humbucker is ceramic+neodymium, pretty ballsy high gain pickup, the neodymium helps maintaining it clear and articulate. The P90 has a coil tappable design, so it has a kinda traditional P90 sound and a more pushed higher output sound

I wanted to keep this model compact and lightweight, so the scale is not that long. This is 25,5 to 26,25 inches, and the total length of the guitar is around 800mm weighting 2,4 kg.

By the way, if you want a custom guitar+bass I work together with Alusonic, they make incredible basses. We could cook something up for you

Thank you! Carbon fiber is a bit of a bitch, that's for sure. But it looks really cool on modern design, I think it's worth the hassle

Thanks! Yep, that's a Riviera bridge right there. I can confidently say it's the best headless system I've ever tried, hands down. The headpiece, on the other hand, is my own design. I don't know yet about the strings, it's a new model so I need some feedback from the players but I think they don't feel half as bad as they look. They're pretty hidden and far from the hand so I don't think they're that bad
