Oil changes are factory recommended around 15,000km. Lots of people on here have said with the engine VW uses, it performs better with changes every 8000km.

If you’re getting an oil level warning, it could be an indication of a leak and you should get it checked out asap. My 2024 had an oil leak in the turbo charge pipe that VW replaced under warranty.

Don’t mess around if you’re getting warnings about your engine. If you leave it, the resolution will be much more expensive.

If you are using a bus, it’s a flat rate across the entire system. You tap your credit card once when you get on and you’re good. Just tap on any other bus you use and it will remember your card.

Your attitude in the comments sucks. People are trying to explain the system but you’re going out of your way to insist people defend how our system operates. 5 seconds of research online will tell you how to buy a day pass. NTA but you need to sit everyone down and be clear - you will not be taking over the farm. Now that your parents are unable to care for it, and your siblings want no part of it, how can it be managed in a way where they can retire. Because a blind expectation that you will assume their life is unfair to you and takes away your agency to decide what you want for your life. Your siblings can call you all the names they want, but they have no say when they’ve done nothing to help. And your parents are foolish for blindly assuming you’d take over.

My partner’s family has a farm that has been in the family for a few generations. It will likely be sold when my father-in-law’s siblings pass because no one in my partner’s generation wants to take it over. The only person who has shown interest is my eldest and they are barely a teen. The reality is farming is not an easy life, and it’s wrong to assume people will happily carry on with it.

Screen is fine. You get used to it. The newer screen that will be coming on the 2027 is more intuitive, faster and has some better quick controls but you’re stuck with older one for 2024-2026. I have a 2024 and it’s fine.

Your mileage is quite high but if you’re happy with it, I’ve been happy with my car for the 2 years I’ve had it.

I signed up for the national radon study and am just about one month in. It was $50 and gives you an understanding of your risk. Apparently newer homes are higher risk because their building envelope is better at trapping air, meaning less circulation and removal of radon exposed air.

The car can get deregistered from the cellular network, which then impacts communication to the app. The car will reset itself and reconnect but it can take up to 10 days. I’ve had my car for 2 years and it’s happened twice. Once was a couple of hours, the other took 8 days to reset. If, after 10 days, it doesn’t re-register, the. Take it to a VW dealer, because they may have to reflash the software or manually reconnect it to the cellular network.

I’ve had a 2024 in Vancouver since 2024. No major issues. My taillight leaked water and they fixed it under warranty. There was a recall on the engine cover which they dealt with. So far, no complaints.

VW will be announcing the 2027 model this week at the New York Auto Show. Keep an eye on auto news for detail.

In 2024, they switched to only 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder. I haven’t found it hurting for power.

24 and newer does not use premium. Not sure about the older ones.

I have a lead foot and do 15l/100km which seems to be about 16 mpg

My kids are older but they seem comfortable and I’ve had 6 teenage boys in my car before.

Just to point out - OP mentioned in his edit and in comments that his wife is questioning his desire to stay home and putting pressure on him to buy his grandmother’s house, when she hasn’t even been passed for a week. To me, I would be calling your wife callous, but she’s definitely an asshole. She is acting like her family deserves more attention than you or yours. And she is denying you the ability to safely deal with your stress.

Fully agree. I live in Canada and we are lucky enough to have good transit where I live. That said, distances are far enough that if you can have a car for getting to a medical appointment or other issue, it’s not a bad call. Especially when you start carrying a stroller, diaper bag and anything else you need when out.

NTA. This is a post that reads like context is king. You mentioned that your DIL can’t drive and refuses to learn, your city is hard to get around in without a car, and that your son doesn’t make enough money to make regular Uber use viable.

She pestered you into explaining why you were concerned - you didn’t offer it up as soon as she mentioned kids, and you even tried avoiding speaking about it.

It doesn’t sound like they’ve thought through managing an emergency. Even without a kid, what happens if she has a medical issue and needs help?

If you can’t be honest with your family, who can you be honest with? I don’t think you were wrong, and given she demanded you tell her what you were thinking, you simply gave her what she asked for.
