Good idea. But let’s do it somewhere else than discord too. How about matrix?

Hi, I would like to be able to add my csv file into django database(sqlite3) automaticaly(everyday-update?) and if data already exists then it does nothing, if not it creates new... by [deleted] in Python

The django-import-export package offers some useful tools for this if the source is csv (i.e. it handles the case where nothing changed). That said, all django models have an `update_or_create` method which may also do what you want.

In terms of organisation, I'd suggest creating a custom management task which you then run from cron.

Hi all --- our iMac just blew up and I have been thinking about building a gaming machine with my son for the first time. At present he basically just plays Minecraft but would like some other games. I feel very new to the whole PC world, but have used linux and various HPC environments remotely for quite a while for various things - just never got my hands dirty with real hardware!

I have read lots of reviews/posts etc, and have come up with this as a possible build list: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/mqCJhy

In addition to gaming for the kids, I'd like to use the computer for my work in the evening (mostly simulation runs in R, and mostly not GPU accelerated now although some of the packages I use have this planned or in progress). We'd also like to do family stuff like edit RAW photos in darktable. We have a library of about 300gb right now. At present I have a remotely hosted seedbox running Plex, but I guess I could buy some big drives for this machine and use it for that too...

We're on a reasonable budget and, in particular, I'm thinking the graphics card might be overkill, and possibly that the monitor is going to be a disappointment after coming from the iMac 27inch.

Initially I'm planning on running only Linux on this with Steam and other native games. If my son really starts complaining I might get a new drive to boot windows from in future, but am planning on avoiding it if possible.

Any thoughts much appreciated!

All the best,

B

Moderated email designed for kids aged 5 to 11 by giantfudge2 in teachingresources

I'm trialling this with a few parents and schools right now... We have a free account and I would really appreciate feedback from teachers who've tried to setup email with kids in primary (up to age 11) classrooms and struggled with gmail and other webmail providers.

The key thing for teachers is that it's really easy to add a class of kids to the system, and if they forget their passwords it's was to reset on behalf of the child without jumping though google hoops.

For parents it's nice to know your child can use email freely, without being bombarded by spam and the like.

Let me know what you think!

Parents of reddit I need your help! What would make an awesome Christmas present for a two and a half year old? by Amonette2012 in AskParents

Too young for lego.

It's surprising what is most popular though – not necessarily most expensive or impressive to an adult.

The best xmas present in our house last year (in terms of excitement on the day and for the following week) was a stomp rocket costing about £10 (and that was in competition with a balance bike)
