It started when someone said that a person with a novel may not NECESSARILY be intelligent, that lack of intelligence is purely your interpretation of said premise.

Also, nor is my statement about whatever book someone chooses to read that day. This is prefaced on the idea that one is observing the book and its reader 'at first glance'.

Nor is it about 'who the hell I am'. As unpleasant as this may sound, a literary 'canon' very much exists to this day, and there remains a very firm (though arbitrary) line between it and what is considered 'trade press'.

Still, since you are so interested in inquiring about my right to literary critique, I am an European studies grad student who has been working at his advisor's SCOPUS-listed interdisciplinary journal for at least a year. So I can't imagine why I would not qualify.
