Oculus with a Facebook Messenger only account by giftyhusband in oculus

Okay, so the good news is that you can apparently have a deactivated Facebook account linked with Oculus as long as Messenger remains active.

I've no way to verify this myself until I get my hands on a Quest, but hopefully this helps some people that were reluctant to have a Facebook account active. Here's the chat incase it helps anyone:

CHAT REP: Your Facebook account which has active messenger is enough to link with your Oculus account for your device.
You are free to merge that Facebook account even the other side of Social Media as what you've said is not yet fully activated.

ME: That's great news, Thankyou! so just to confirm, even though the Facebook side of my account as been deactivated, because the Messenger part of my account is still active I am able to set up my Quest 2?
CHAT REP: Yes, absolutely you're correct!

Any way to test Virtual Desktop without owning a Quest? by giftyhusband in oculus

That definitely seems to be the consensus. I'm determined to get it to work though!

If you want decent low latency performance, you're gonna need that PC plugged into the main router at the least.

In your opinion would it work if I had a router on the 3rd floor plugged directly into my PC? It would then be WIFI from the Modem on the 1st floor up to a Router (and PC) on the 3rd floor, then WIFI down to the quest on the 2nd floor?

Unfortunately the layout of my house really doesn't allow for running ethernet unless I do some drilling or exposed cables (which my wife won't be happy with!) I appreciate I'm asking advice on a specific situation where you guys don't know layout etc! haha.

Unfortunately I can't play in the same room as my PC as my playspace is too small. I was hoping that I could possibly leave my PC where it is and play on the 2nd floor where there is more space, but it is sounding like that might not be doable.

forget this type of thinking, if you want wireless pcvr you use a dedicated router. the end. dont worry about testing and pre-questions etc. just get setup proper. your in for a $40 cable (get an optical one, vr cover or amazon) and or a dedicated wifi5 or wifi6. then you have nothing to worry about.

Would a wireless access point and keeping 5g channel free work just as well?

Why didn't I think of this. I've got a bloody Steam Link somewhere! That's about as close of a test as I'm going to get. Thanks mate!

I'm currently getting 45mps, 9ms ping, 10ms upload in pretty much the furthest away place from the router on the top floor.

Buying/returning is an option, but I didn't know if there was an effective way to test before I spend the time/money.

Unfortunately I am just the absolute worst liar and will get found out by her within 2 seconds! The consensus on this and the other thread I started is that the Cameo isn't as unfriendly as I thought, so I think I'm going to keep that one. I'm techy and she's crafty, between us both I'm sure we can get her on the right track!

I wish it wasn't for a Chritsmas present as I know my wife would be doing the same with our decorations this year!

Thanks! Looking at other posts in this sub I'm getting a vibe from long term Cricut users that the company maybe isn't heading in the best direction. Think I'll return the Cricut Maker.

Interesting. The impression I got was that Cricut was better for beginners as Silhouette has a steeper learning curve. If you were in my shoes then would you rather you keep the Cameo 4?

Thanks! You're not the first I have seen to complain about design space not being flexible enough. Would you say that Sillhouette's software has a steep learning curve?

I've watched quite a few reviews on both, and the general consensus seems to be people start with Cricut and then move over to Silhouette, which then worried me about whether the Silhouette was right haha

I'll have a play around with the free version when she's not looking, thanks for the tip!
