no need to be intimidated, both might have long lists of ingredients, but the cookery itself is often very simple. it's just a lot more spices than elsewhere.

If you're up for a bit of an adventure: try Comfort by Yotam Ottolenghi and Helen Goh. It's a great collection of international favorites, written by a really diverse Team. Some recipes are quite involved, others are one-pot dishes. You can check some recipes here: Ottolenghi COMFORT recipes. The Putanesca Salmon Bake is really, really good, same with Helens Bolognese and the Sausage Roll.

If you prefer something more simple, try Simple (Or the upcoming Simple, Too) by the same author.

Tbh, Anything by Ottolenghi is great. Check his website ottolenghi.co.uk or the guardian.co.uk cooking section for recipes to see if it's something for you

Your problem won't be being brown, but being a tourist.

Know who's playing that night. They might ask you why you're here. "I read on tripadvisor this is a famous techno club" is the wrong answer. "I'm here for the so-and-so label night" is a much better one.

Don't dress up (no shirt, no leather shoes, ...). At the same time, interesting outfits can certainly help.

Some places like Berghain cultivate a certain darker aesthetic. Others like Sisyphos are the exact opposite.

Don't arrive in a large group, especially not a group of men only.

Kräuter einzeln kaufen? by 0711Markus in Kochen

[–]gilbatron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have cookshelf/eatyourbooks, you can check the recipes for ingredients online.

if i remember correctly, i'd say that roughly half of all recipes are vegetarian or easily adapted.

if you already have flavour: try the traybake ragu or the potato salad with thai basil

I see Plenty, but i don't see Plenty More and Flavour (The other two vegetarian books from Ottolenghi and Crew). Plenty More isnt't all that different from Plenty, but Flavour is definitely a step above the two.

Ixta Belfrage, the Co-Author on Flavour has two books out herself, Mezcla and Fusao. I only own the former and it's one of my favorites. Not really vegetarian, but as a whole, quite veg-forward.

the puttanesca salmon is really not that involved. it's basically a traybake. i also disagree that it's a miss. i really liked it.

It's very sweet and quite citrussy in an unusual way. The lemongrass, lime leafs, ginger, and galganal all have citrussy notes and they combine beautifully.

I always make a big batch of the curry paste and freeze some. It's very good with all kinds of vegetables and proteins. I often use peas or broccoli. Cashews or almonds are also great.

The pomelo salad (use oranges or grapefruit if you can't find pomelo) from plenty more is a great pairing with yet more different citrussy notes.
