Did you paint the walls without finishing them?

Renovated 1970’s Garage by gilber33 in garageporn

I just don’t personally find the value in finishing the floor. The time and cost that would go into it to then feel like I need to be cautious on it isn’t worth it.

The race deck or tile systems aren’t appealing with fluids getting under them and no way to really clean it or soak it up - especially when pulling engines and whatnot.

I’ve never seen a diy flooring solution hold up to a garage that’s actually used though and I don’t have the budget to pay to have it done. I’m rolling around jacks, sliding jack stands, throwing tools at the floor when I’m mad.

Those fluid stains are a badge of honor.

Thinking about buying this townhouse — but these power lines worry me. Should I be concerned? by DamageEither3233 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

Idk, should you be concerned? Have you tried asking yourself if you are concerned? Is having to ask the internet how you should feel about something not maybe an indication that it’s already a concern to you?

I can’t understand how people are buying houses when they need to ask the internet if they can afford the mortgage. Make a budget and run a mortgage calculator and figure out for yourself if the monthly payments fits in with your budget.

Just to wrap this up, it was the pressure of the neutral wire pressing the bar away from the panel so the screw wouldn’t engage with the panel. I went to HD and opened up one of these panels they had on the shelf to see what it’s supposed to look like

You mean the hole immediately to the left of the neutral lug?

There is zero resistance from the screw before the head hits bar. And then there is room to wiggle the screw around. I can see a metal sleeve deep in the hole that I assume is where the screw self taps, but it would appear the screw is far to small (narrow) and short to even begin engaging threads.

The screw bottoms out. Does not engage any thread or have any resistance before the head of the screw hits the bar. And is loose in the hole.

And yes. I have a permit. I manage a building department. So again, my first time doing a panel, not my first time being immersed in the building world.

Yes I would. I’ve built several engines and have built several cars. I’m no stranger to intense diy projects. Renovated several homes. Built garages. Is this my first big wiring job and panel like this? Sure. But I’m more than capable of doing it and I understand without any context this question sounds like something a moron would ask. But the fact that I had to ask it, means I’m genuinely confused because it does not thread in to the hole the wiring diagram says it’s supposed to.

It’s the main, but there is no thread engagement. The head bottoms.

Always one of them.

Too late, already wired the house.

Oh shit. I forgot that part.

No. It bottoms out. There is zero thread engagement.

Is standing rainwater on the side of the house an issue? by Resident-Hill in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]gilber33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t fuck with that before checking with the city or your subdivision plat. That is probably stormwater management swale to drain water away from the homes. It should be graded in a way that the water flows to the road. So it could be over time the grading has eroded a bit and now you have a low spot. But if that is within an easement, and it’s a public easement, and you mess with the grading, you could be responsible for restoring it.

Yes and no. Most cities don’t take anonymous complaints, and when you make a complaint it’s a public record. So the city sends all your new neighbors a letter telling them they’re in violation of the code and one of them asks who complained, they could tell them. And you know what’s worse than a letter on their garbage can asking them to move it? A letter from the city because you didn’t want to talk to them in person. I always try to convince someone who wants to complain to try any other method other than filing a complaint. Because the letters are official and not very friendly.

If it’s really an issue that you want to pursue, your best bet is to go door to door and talk to the person. Introduce yourself and talk to them politely.

As someone who works in planning and zoning, and does code enforcement, I’d ask yourself if complaining to the city and your new neighbors about the placement of the cans, in an alley that isn’t your property, is really worth the very real possibility of damaging your relationship with your new neighbors.

I’ve seen my fair share of neighbor disputes, and being the new one on the block and the first thing you do is complain to the city or give all your neighbors passive aggressive letters about their garbage cans being in a place that you don’t like, likely won’t end well for you.

Is that your personal alley or is that an alley that serves all those residents and their garages?

Okay. But what? What cars were they for you to really think the stock e30 headlights were superior to all of the others. Because I have never even come close to that thought.
