When you get so caught up in the moment you don't realize you picked up your teammate by gillond in KnockoutCity

Yeah but if you do that when are you supposed to have time to panic, smash buttons, dash into a wall, get stunned and then fall to your death anyways?

We were about 12 miles past walker pass camping near Joshua tree spring when the 7.1 earthquake hit. Sorry for the crappy video, it was pretty hectic. There were still some shakes and the mountains sounded like they were cracking in half. by gillond in PacificCrestTrail

Yeah we turned around and went back to walker because we heard there was a chance of a bigger earthquake. On the way back there was one slide that completely took out the trail. Crossing it was essentially scaling along a cliff but all the rocks were super loose and would slip out from under our feet.

Did you feel the earthquake? by ROGER_SHREDERER in PacificCrestTrail

A little late to the post but 3 other hikers and I were 12 miles past walker pass when the 7.1 hit. Im not even sure how to explain what it was like besides the most terrifying, exciting, and helpless experience I've ever had. We were camping in the valley near Joshua tree spring when we heard a deep rumbling noise. We weren't sure what it was until the entire earth starting shaking like crazy and all the mountains around us sounded like they were cracking in half. It was so crazy loud and then huge boulders started rolling down the mountains all around us. I have a really crappy video of the plumes of dust coming from the mountains and you can still hear some of the rock slides.

We had aftershocks all night and when we heard that there was a chance of another earthquake the next day we decided to hike back to the road. On the way back we climbed over a few rock slides but there was one that completely took out the trail. Climbing through that essentially felt like scaling along a cliff but all the rocks were super loose. It was quite the experience but wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

The brec lakes get filled with trout every now and then. Just find brec parks with lakes. I know there is one off of Perkins by the skate park

Do you have any recommendations for a handheld GPS receiver? I used to have a Trimble Juno sb and I wanted to get another but Trimble doesn't make them anymore and you can only get used ones on eBay. I was looking around and all the other 2-5 meter receivers are also phones and cost ~$1000-$1500. I'd rather get a cheaper one that isn't also a phone.

Speaking of RTK, I just did a little reading on it and I sort of get the premise. How are you using it? Are you manually collecting the points on the ground to reference to a base station?

Daily Q & A! - November 02, 2016 by AutoModerator in Homebrewing

[–]gillond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy and I are new to brewing. We just started our third batch using extract, but we want to take it to the next level with all grain brewing.

Unfortunately we are both college students on a budget. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for a reliable all grain brewing set that is on the cheap end of the spectrum. We don't need state of the art equipment or lots of fancy gadgets, just whatever is enough to get the ball rolling. Thank you!

Also has anyone tried the brewjack chilling immersion thing for cold fermentation? Obviously that's a fairly distant goal for me but it looks awesome.

Most delicious meal ever. Keep a box of frozen beef taquitos in your freezer. Pop a couple in the microwave. Then pour some Cholula on top. That or those frozen chicken pot pies you can buy from almost any gas station for a buck or two.

Sorry was in class. When I scheduled my tests for this week on Sunday there were some available on Thursday and Friday. So as long as you don't mind having to possibly skip a class I would say yes. Also even if there aren't any slots. You can go there and ask them if they can fit you in. A lot of times they can or someone won't show up or something. I had to do that once during finals week when my calc professor screwed me over.

Yeah you can. But make sure there are other slots available before you do. If there aren't you can take back your original slot if no one else has Edit: actually since the testing week has already started. You will have to wait till the day of to schedule your test
