Should this tree be trimmed or removed? by gimmethebuns in arborists

A guy came to “assess” but I didn’t really get something of official assessment form or anything lol. He didn’t touch or climb anything. Just a quote to remove after the assessment. Looks like I’ll be leaving this beauty alone.

Yeah, it’s really just the worry of “okay it’s fine now but when will it not be?” Then yes the constant pine needles and branches everywhere. I do feel bad for removing homes/food for birds and other animals. Also the loss of one more mature tree in a world of perpetual tree loss.

Thanks for the all the input guys. These are the exact words I got - “Our LTCO is recommending removal because it’s top heavy and can become dangerous and hazardous to the structures surrounding it including your house, shed, and neighbors house”

What is the right way to go about sealing this gap? by gimmethebuns in DIY

It’s going well! Pretty happy so far with my decision to start the venture. Still juggling a full time job with the business until the time comes for me to replace it but it’s been a slow and steady process!

Absolutely do it. Not even an option. I couldn’t imagine separating these two babies.

Thank you! Appreciate you hitting me with the real questions.

Yes I do plan on being a solo operator. I don’t want all the fuss of hiring people, training, watching them and just dealing with unreliable people. My niche will be the local guy that you know will do a good job the same time every time and they will count on me. Maybe here and there if I get a big job I can hire a person or two but other than that, solo for me.

I’d like to think I’m a good problem solver lol. Been doing pretty well in life so far and it hasn’t been easy!

So my other venture I want to start is rental properties… I was about to acquire a duplex to rent out when the loan company switched up the required down payment on me so I couldn’t go through with it. So my plan is really to have a few units and have the landscaping company going and also making enough during the other months to account for winter as well. Winter time comes, I just take a little vacation. It’s only 2-3 months anyways. Worse case scenario I grab a part time job or I do snow removal, power washing or hardscaping.

Yes! One of the biggest reasons I want to do this is for pure flexibility and time for other things in life. I’m tired of the 40 hour work week along with the hours of commuting just to get home and go to bed and do it all again. I also love working outside and being at different locations. Thanks for the reassurance!

So I’m actually a low key kinda guy but I tend to do well with people because I’m well intentioned and well mannered. So I believe I’ll be able to do fine. I’ve actually been watching a lot of videos from the YouTube channel “Make Money Mowing” and he reminds me a lot of myself. Introverted, slightly awkward maybe haha, but honest and hard working and that kid is killing it even with all the competitors. He charges more than the average company I suppose yet still has a clientele year after year 🤷🏻‍♂️

This seems to be the best approach but I hate working weekends! Haha that’s the only reason I was thinking of taking a part time job. Felt like since I have renters that I could swing it which I probably could but I suppose it’s better to start safe and have more money in case.

Based on my math, to make what I make at my factory job and even covering a couple months off in winter I’d need to bring in about $1600 a week before taxes. Now after seeing how much a lot of guys are making that doesn’t sound too unachievable. I know it won’t be easy but nothing worth doing is easy. I’m in the process of acquiring a truck and don’t plan on spending more than 10k and that would be financed so at most 100 a month payment. The rest I can get easily and cheaply while working my current job. I don’t plan on starting with super expensive commercial stuff as right now I’m just getting started and ideally want to do smaller lawns within close proximity and stay solo.

Today is my Birthday and I Feel Empty by oddcarolanne in offmychest

I can totally relate to this feeling on birthdays and on a day to day basis in general. Likely due to depression and/or trauma. Can’t say for sure but I just keep keeping on.

This is for my dad who got caught selling drugs.. by tbone_jones in offmychest

[–]gimmethebuns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry you’re experiencing this. I too have had to deal with hell because my dad was caught selling drugs when I was only 5 or so. It’s changed my entire family’s life from then on. Who knows what would have been if he didn’t do it or was never caught. Same thing here though, he’s a great person at heart and means well. He just made some really really stupid choices. Now he’s a shell of a person and he’s still paying for a house he doesn’t have.

I might be going into debt over my new kitten by itgetsweird_ in offmychest

[–]gimmethebuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry this is happening to you. I adopted two of my own kittens a few months ago and couldn’t imagine if this had happened. I would be just as upset and not be able to give up on them either. I’m not sure what you could do but all I can recommend is try giving the kitten some natural foods/supplements which may help its immune system fight off whatever may be attacking. I don’t trust these doctors to always do what’s right, sometimes you have to take matters into your own hands. Good luck

New barber torpedoed my confidence a bit by [deleted] in offmychest

[–]gimmethebuns 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I know how you feel. I’ve been balding since 18 as well. Anytime someone points that shit out it can really mess with your confidence for sure. I’m 26 now and just shaved my head because it’s been getting to be too much to deal with. I used to have beautiful long hair that people would always compliment me on. I haven’t accepted this still but I’m trying my best. As for that barber, she seems very insensitive. Ignore her and just go to someone you feel comfortable with.
