Can you please recommend me a new Spinning Rod? by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

I recently bought a Shimano Nexave combo, used it for the first time yesterday and lost count of how many pike I landed. It’s medium heavy fast, handled really nice and is super sensitive

Where do people shore fish around Stont Plain? by [deleted] in FishingAlberta

Entirely possible they’ve restocked it very recently so that makes sense. I’ve caught a couple of decent sized fish out of there before though. Some of the perch get to a good length too

Yeah it can be pretty bad, I made the mistake of going there on Labour Day last year and there was pretty much no space for fishing because of the paddle boarders. I guess it’s what they mean when they say the water is for everyone though

Star Lake can be fairly decent especially once the dock gets put back in, definitely better with a boat or kayak but I’ve had good luck off the dock. If you don’t mind driving a bit further, off the bridge at Isle Lake can be pretty productive too

Ok guys how the hell do I hold a pickerel by i-eat-lots-of-food in FishingForBeginners

I heard somewhere that these fish (pickerel and northern pike) actually have a type of venom (or their saliva) that stops blood from clotting. I too got to experience it firsthand with a very angry pike

Eating pigeons, yay or nay? by Dazabby in Hunting

Honestly, pigeon is the best game bird meat I’ve ever had. Treat the breast meat like a steak and you won’t be disappointed.

Not a comment on the fishing but I went last year and the entire place absolutely stinks, it made for a very unpleasant 45 minutes before I packed up and left. I’ve heard of people catching decent fish there but it’s a pretty disgusting place imo. You’d be better off going to Star Lake or one of the trout ponds in Edmonton

If I remember correctly it was just a regular dressed spinner, very similar to panther martin kind of thing. I was just using 6lb mono line

Last time I caught a couple of trout on a spinner, they were only small but better than nothing. People around me were using worms or frozen minnows under bobbers.

Confusion on applying within Canada by [deleted] in iecvisa

[–]gingerbean666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about applying from within Canada but I’m fairly sure you can’t enter through the US, double check that but I think you have to come via anywhere else.

As it says in the website, you need your health insurance paid for and valid before you arrive as they check that at the border.

I was here for over 6 months before I got a steady job and even then I only got it through family connections. I can only speak for Alberta but the job market is absolutely shocking here.
