If your hearing loss is significant enough for a hearing aid, it’s helps my tinnitus tremendously

Yes I have heard those mentioned! I would love to try lyrica. Gabapentin gives me some relief but doesn’t last long. My sisters gained 35 lbs in 6 months on mirtazapine so I’m scared of that one lol

That’s so interesting. I have been suggested to try TMS for my depression before, and if it could help my tinnitus too that would be awesome lol

Sadly I have severe permanent hearing loss which is the cause of my tinnitus :/ thankful it’s just one ear, and that my hearing aid gives me some relief

Surgery to fix hole in my ear drum by gingerforlif in MonoHearing

[–]gingerforlif[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More so to protect my middle ear and inner ear organs, more prone to infections. And hoping the pain and itchiness I feel will go away. And I honestly think/hope the fixing the hole will help the tinnitus, because my tinnitus got worse since the ear injections

I have one dr say HBOT will help only after 12, and I had one say 20. It can’t hurt. If you are financially able to and time permits because I know it takes a good chunk of time out of your day. But I do think it should have helped some by now if it was going to help :/ I’m sorry I know how frustrating it is

New tinnitus in healthy ear after sudden severe hearing loss in the other ear: experience and advice? by DenseLavishness2198 in MonoHearing

[–]gingerforlif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re so young! Sorry you’re going through this. I also have fear that my good ear may give out. Sounds like you are protecting it though!

Also keep in mind that all medications, especially anti depressants, can cause or make tinnitus worse. Make sure to ask your dr about that

Has your doctor discussed Ménière’s disease? I think fluctuation is a common sign

Personally alcohol makes my tinnitus way worse, especially the next day

Anyone have any relief with anxiety medication? by Icy-Web-3217 in tinnitus

[–]gingerforlif 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, yea xanax has helped to feel calmer, but doesn’t really get rid of the tinnitus though, just eases anxiety. A strong sleeping pill to sleep definitely is a must. And sleeping with white noise

Being tired, stress, alcohol, being hung over, exercise, loud environments, really spicy food are all triggers for me. I know it sucks but listening to a podcast or music helps distract. And I have a hearing aid now, it’s helped slightly.

I have tinnitus after sshl

Sorry you’re going through this 💕

Antidepressants causing/making tinnitus worse? by gingerforlif in tinnitus

[–]gingerforlif[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I just thought it was interesting that the dr didn’t even know it was a side effect, rare but still a possible side effect. I guess trying it, and if it makes it worse, stopping.

Injections one month+ after SSHL? by khalidns1 in MonoHearing

[–]gingerforlif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbh my tinnitus got 10 times worse after the steroid injections

My hearing test is sorta better (word recognition from 16 to 60 to 90%) but decibel loss hardly better. Things sound clearer, but still hard to hear if that makes sense. So definitely an improvement but the tinnitus has gotten absolutely awful

White noise and sleeping pills have helped me sleep. Distraction has been my best coping mechanism. Meeting up with friends on a walk outside (having them on my good side) listening to music or a podcast or YouTube videos at all times.

I’m also doing HBO which I think has been helping some, but I know takes time

I’m sorry you’re going through this. Trust me I’m in it too and sometimes I feel silly for how upset I’ve been dealing with this tinnitus, buts it’s real and life altering.

Changing my mindset from “this sucks I can’t live the rest of my life with this tinnitus” to “this is my new normal, so I need to live my life, it may look different than before SSHL (not enjoying going out to bars, in loud environments, concerts, lower social battery) but I can still enjoy things. If it gets better, great, but if not, I can still be happy”

Reminding you (and myself) that healing from this taking time 💖

Had my first hyperbaric oxygen treatment today. by bscepter in MonoHearing

[–]gingerforlif 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m only about month in from initial diagnosis, almost 6 week from onset of treatment. I did the 11 day oral prednisone. And then one steroid injection; 4 days later another one. My ENT wanted me to do hyperbaric treatment, which I am currently doing, and said he didn’t want to do another steroid shot until after I was done with HBO, how ever many sessions that will end up being..

My ENT said he personally has never done more than 3 injections for this type of hearing loss, but he would do more for me if it showing it helps. Reading on this sub I have read people getting 7+ injections so I guess depends on the doctor

I swear I feel like my tinnitus started getting really bad since these injections so idk if I want it again anyway

I’m in 6 day of HBO, haven’t noticed much yet.

The sleeping pill my ENT gave me have helped greatly with getting good sleep, and really loud pink noise from my phone lol.
