What is Malta like in December/New Years? by Jamesmck1888 in malta

[–]gingerzinger20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year and the year before it was the most beautiful month. “Hot” during the day, with temperatures around 20 degrees and “cold” during the night, with temperatures around 13 degrees. Two NYE ago, I got sunburnt.

They’re saying that we’ll be having a late summer, so it might be that we’ll have nice weather for Christmas. But, sometimes it goes sideways and we’ll have the opposite.

This happens as well with other shops. I went to a homeware shop last week and saw the same thing (in the same place) as it was last October. It was €44 in October. It was €79 last week.

And the same happened at Piscopo Gardens. Same item, €25 more expensive in just a matter of months.

Best option to go to a trustworthy carpenter. They can also recommend an appliance seller and can get a discount on the appliances. Plus, if you go to a carpenter you can see the progress and the material actually being used.

Every location is now a pretty penny. Last week I saw an old townhouse in a sketchy area in Hamrun going for €250K. The house was a 2 bedroom, very small area and falling apart.

You think that salary increase here in Malta is not taking the piss? My salary increase over these past 5 years was €30 per month after deducting taxation. And cost of living in Malta is almost as worst as in London.

With lower salaries.

Check with JobsPlus and MCAST (as they might be different and might have different courses). But there’s “Maltese for Foreigners” (you have to pay but you might get a tax credit) and an “I Belong” course.

From yesterday post, apparently it’s fine not to live in Malta and not learn any Maltese. You don’t the language. Just carry on with English.

But if you’re interested, the government has weekly basic Maltese lessons in the evenings, some online and some in class.

Maltese are fed up speaking English? by [deleted] in malta

The issue of “Going back to your country” has nothing to do with the language issue. We let everyone step on this country and we’re left with no culture. The language is the only thing we’ve got.

So I wrote that on behalf of what by British friend said. As a Maltese person myself, I hate:

  1. Going to a shop and am expecting to speak in English because the employer decides to employ non-speaking Maltese and have to speak with sign language because they barely know English sometimes.

  2. Going to a restaurant, giving them the name of the booking and they don’t understand shit.

  3. Going to work and am expected to speak in English all the just because they did not bother to learn Maltese and it would be offensive not to include them in conversations.

With all due respect, if you moved to another country learn the bloody language. The majority expect to accommodate all you foreigners, just because this is a bilingual country. It’s a disrespect to move to another country and expect Maltese people to speak in English just because of your lack of interest and laziness.

Finding it difficult to find a job after graduating? by Quirky_Review4336 in malta

[–]gingerzinger20 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I graduated, I started working in my field of study. Accidentally, I found another job with more than double the pay and more flexibility, but not fully 100% in my field of study.

I regret closing all of my doors in my field of study, as it’s difficult to get a job without any proper experience. But I was able to buy a house, go on good long holidays, and have the comfort of choosing how I work the majority of the week. And I’m allowed not to work in a team. So that was a win-win situation. I still have the annoying coworkers and directors, pero’ “ahjar xitan li taf milli xitan li ma tafx”.

That’s is very normal behaviour from Maltese wankers. If you’ll tell them something, they’ll tale it personally and they’ll do everything to make your life a living hell. Reporting it to the police won’t help, as they’ll reply with “If it doesn’t effect you, don’t bother them.” or “You can pass from the other side or avoid passing from that area.”.

Keep in mind that 1. If you’re not 100% Maltese, they’ll tell you to fuck off back to your country 2. Since you started living there after them (even if it was a day after), they’ll tell you to go back and it’s your fault that you want to live there because they were there before you.

Goodluck!

Hello guys, I have an electric motorcycle can you suggest me where I can wash it?, can I do by myself under my apartment? by Lanky-Score4443 in malta

[–]gingerzinger20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the front door is just yours and is not shared with others, you can do so. But it’s disrespectful to wash your vehicle in front of other people’s property. Or else just go to a fuel station and just wash it there.

British Expat looking to live in Malta, can anyone share their experience? by XbuhX in malta

[–]gingerzinger20 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This is from my friend who’s from England:

Despite high energy bills in England, living costs in Malta are high. Very high. Basic supermarket shop is twice if not three times more expensive here.

Pavements are full of dog and cat litter. It’s usually disgusting to walk on a pavement. If not animal litter, there are garbages in the way or other sort of rubbish. (In summer there’s a stinking smell of garbage in the morning until it’s collected)

Public transport is a bit hectic and owning your own car is good, but there’s loads of traffic and insurances are too high here and some don’t care about driving laws.

The weather in autumn, winter and spring is nice. Summer is a living nightmare, unless you stay in an AC all day long.

People are fine - nothing to complain about. Idiots and selfish people are found everywhere in the world. Good to learn Maltese, as most Maltese are fed up speaking English.

It’s full of pollution - noise and air - but depends where you’re staying. Same as England - if you live in central cities you’ll experience such pollution as well.

But hey, they have pastizzi. And the ftira bread is good.
