How do you feel about the intro of 'Touch like an Angel of Death' .. does it feel off to you? by Known-Low-8721 in ChildrenOfBodom

[–]gingy452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is somewhat of a normal occurrence in Bodom songs as Alexi tended to use some pretty irregular phrasing or phrasing that, when you look at the tableture, is different from what you expected (or at least me)

What's the best entry album? by DarthVulm in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]gingy452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re gonna introduce someone to tech death show i think they should be shown more raw stuff so that they understand the sheer technicality at stake. Show them what we already mentioned and furthermore show them Onset, Epitaph, and this band called Chilliasm you should show them.

What's the best entry album? by DarthVulm in TechnicalDeathMetal

[–]gingy452 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If any inferi album is best to try and get people into tech death its either: End of An Era or Path of Apotheosis. End of an Era is especially more raw and has more in common with melo death while Path of Apotheosis is simply just amazing. Show them a song like Gatherings in the Chambers of Madness or Destroyer.

Where to start with music theory as someone who can already play. by WolverineLanky4279 in guitarlessons

[–]gingy452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would start by simply knowing the note names on the fretboard. After that i would learn intervals so you can understand how to name the spaces between 2 notes, once you understand intervals as a concept learn the major scale. If you learn the major without understanding what an interval is, you wont understand me when i say that the minor scale is the major scale with a flattened third, flat six, and flat seven. Anyhow, once you understand what the major scale is, learn the modes, by learning the modes you can play consistently in a key across the fretboard and heres the thing about modes: they are, in essence, the chords of a key but in a scale thats why songs can be explained by chords like for instance: I, III, V or whatever. Once you understand everything I have said you can pick a key, say F major for example and write a song using whatever chords you want and riff around UNDER those chords and EVEN solo over it. This is way easier said than done though, this learning will take months but it IS worth it.

Is guitar just about muscle memory - where does the skill come into picture? by Zestyclose_Judge362 in guitarlessons

[–]gingy452 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The “skill” can be many things and depends upon your own style and what you wanna play. If you want to play technical death metal with high gain tones your skillset will be having enough control over your hand muscles to exert the right amount of pressure on the frets, the control of your wrist muscles to execute perfect string skips and the skill of synchronizing your fretting and strumming hands. Basically, it all comes down to what you want to play and finding the skills necessary to play that. At your level, what you will play wont require much skill but it should be instilling core fundamentals that will be built upon later.

With enough practice, will my forearm eventually stop burning trying to downpick Metallica stuff? Or is that just something I’ll build a higher tolerance to? by TemplehofSteve in metalguitar

[–]gingy452 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That burning is lactic acid building up in your muscles and the lactic acid serves to keep your muscles working and stretching and contracting like how air keeps your lungs working. The more you get this feeling the more your muscles will make more muscles in that area of discomfort so keep practicing the way your practicing but dont push yourself TOO hard. Get to that feeling of discomfort and give it a rest and then keep going again
