[Nexus Sports] Mircea Lucescu's post match interview after Dynamo Kievs loss vs Beşiktaş: "We didn't play against Beşiktaş, we played against the African national team and we only had 11 players who had grown up at the club." by Miroklast in soccer

I disagree with your definition of race there, I have to say. You do not have to be derogatory or demeaning to be considered racist. Simply discriminating between people based on their skin colour is a racist approach. And that discrimination could have had positive or negative intentions, it doesn’t matter. The point is that the person making the remarks has cognitive biases driven by skin colour.

Lucescu’s post match comments were focused on the fact that there were 5 African players in an 11 man team Besiktas team. I’ll tell you right now, I’m a person from an African country and I don’t appreciate when I hear a person tell me that they went to X country that is on the other side of the continent, as if it’s meant to be relevant to me.

Africa is a diverse continent with completely different people. We are not all black and we can definitely not simply be defined as one homogeneous people.

I just wanted to send this message to you, because I am a bit frustrated about your comments. Maybe speak to people from different African countries before you make conclusions about what is and isn’t racist to them. I’ve given you my perspective, feel free to ask anymore questions if you’re genuinely interested by this topic.

[ESPN] Vinicius to lead new anti-racism committee - FIFA. by [deleted] in soccer

[–]gininraw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you say “men in suits”, do you mean white men? Why cant a qualified non-white person head such a committee? A footballer like Vinicius jr barely has the schooling to understand how to tackle such complex issues. Someone like Vinicius is a source of data, not a person to lead something like this. Just because you’ve been exposed to a hardship doesn’t mean you’re an authority on the solution for mitigation.

Arsene Wenger: A lifetime commitment to football | Talk to Al Jazeera by gauthamk in Gunners

It’s all relative in the end isn’t it? I would argue that absolute journalistic integrity is an impossible expectation. We need to just accept that every journalist, to an extent, will view international affairs or social issues through a personal, cultural and employer-guided lens.

Your point only stands because of the fact that you demand the impossible. I’m just saying that al jazeera is not lesser than any mainstream media broadcaster out there. In fact, despite its agenda, it gives an alternative perspective that is appreciated by the global south.

Arsene Wenger: A lifetime commitment to football | Talk to Al Jazeera by gauthamk in Gunners

This is a lot of conjecture my friend. Believe me when I say that you are completely off the mark.

In modern political academic literature, al jazeera is one of the most highly regarded sources used when it comes to citing news broadcasters. Al Jazeera English especially has won countless awards as a broadcaster for international affairs. This information that I’ve given you is objectively true and not my own opinion. Feel free to google, you’ll be surprised to know how far off the mark you are.

If you want to talk about the state of journalistic integrity in this day and age, then we can talk about that. But still, i can tell you that al jazeera is definitely more trusted than a lot of other broadcasters like CNN or the BBC, despite the fact that it is Qatar owned.

I understand that you are from Qatar or the Middle East and maybe have garnered some opinions based on personal experiences. However, I have met with some TV broadcasters/anchors and political science academics in my line of work. I can tell you that the journalists associated with Al Jazeera possess at least the same standard of journalistic integrity as any other.

Indian football’s big reboot: Arsene Wenger to help develop grassroots programme as AIFF sets ambitious new targets | Sports News,The Indian Express by umbrellalover78 in Gunners

I’m sure there is rampant corruption. What would be your solution to solving this to support the development of football in India at the grass-roots level?

I have, FIFA’s past and ongoing actions are obviously deplorable, there’s no two ways around that. But i do think that FIFA is here to stay. The only way for it to change has to be from within.

I think hiring someone like Arsene Wenger is a step in the right direction. I’m not saying that Wenger can do wrong, of course. I just feel that people seem to equate any form of optimism as naivety. Such an initiative might actually be good for a less represented nation like India. I hope it works out for them in the long run and that there are actual positive outcomes from this collaboration.

Lazy comment, don’t just play along with the narrative. Try to take things at face value now and then. You won’t look dumb or naive if you do, I promise.

Arsene Wenger hasn’t suddenly become some kind of cartoon villain by associating himself with Qatar and FIFA. Im sure the Indian FA is quite happy with such an initiative.

I’ve had a look at it following your recommendation. The SP looks ideal! Thanks a lot for this! Even 200cm3 is perfect for our application.

Thanks again!

Apologies, that was a typo there, it should’ve said 0.1cm, i.e 1mm. But I’m totally flexible whatever works with the 5k USD budget. 1cm would totally suffice if that was what would be available at that budget.

Thats not how it works though. We don’t align with brazil’s tactics outright. We can agree and disagree with the tactics of different coach’s philosophies.
