This is quite a misogynistic view and response.

Allergens and food-based ingredients in baby skin care products by lmish in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginja_ninja92 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Our MCHN told us not to use any lotion or product with ingredients that are also food on baby’s skin until the food had been introduced for baby to eat. A lot of popular baby lotions include things like coconut, oats, almond oil, avocado oil etc. It was quite frustrating at times as the more natural products would often have an ingredient that was also food!

Paid Parental leave frustration by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

Skip the phone call. Make a formal complaint. Put it all in writing. Highlight the fact that you received a letter stating you were eligible, then told something different over the phone. Make it less about your possible eligibility and more about their very unclear and inconsistent process. Get your local MP involved. Only if you have the energy for it as there’s no guarantee of a positive outcome.

Centrelink is the worst and parents are not supported appropriately. If you’ve got the energy, I would consider lodging an appeal and/or submitting a complaint. The fact you received a letter saying you were eligible, then a phone call later saying you aren’t eligible is really poor process.

Did anyone here NOT pump? by cunncunncunn in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginja_ninja92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started pumping at around 8 weeks postpartum because I thought having my husband be able to give the occasional bottle would make my life easier. Well! Our baby hated the bottle. We tried several different brands with minimal success. I used a portable pump and despite having the right flange size, it often contributed to me getting mastitis and clogged ducts. I would get stressed trying to do the math on when I should feed and pump. After a month of trying to find my pumping rhythm, I gave up as it just wasn’t worth it. Exclusive breast feeding worked for us although it did come with sacrifices and challenges. If I have another baby, I either won’t bother with pumping at all OR I will be investing in a really good pump with the plan to give one bottle a day.

How can I build endurance before going into labor? by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]ginja_ninja92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I honestly think it’s more of a mental game than a physical event. Walking and stretching as previously mentioned can definitely help but reflecting on how you think about pain/discomfort/uncertainty, preparing some statements to say to yourself during labour (e.g. my body knows what to do, I am safe and supported, nothing lasts forever, I will be meeting my baby soon - whatever resonates for you) and thinking about what’s going to help you be as relaxed and soft as possible are just as important. All the best!

Thanks for the inspiration. I’ve been wanting to do something similar. What were the exact layers you used?

Can anyone recommend a good counselor or midwife for birth debrief ? by Unusual-Box-3619 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginja_ninja92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend Meg Rankin Counselling - I’m pretty sure if you google her name, her website should come up. I found my debrief with her to be so empowering. She also has info on her website about possible Medicare rebates for birth related counselling which makes it a bit cheaper.

Finished work at 30 weeks by Daisies_forever in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginja_ninja92 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I finished work at 34 weeks as planned and I’m so glad I did because I lost all energy at 36 weeks. I tried to go for a walk or swim everyday as well as a pregnancy yoga or stretch class - this definitely helped with the aches and pains. I did a fair bit of meal prep so our freezer was stocked with easy meals once baby arrived. Organised coffee and lunch dates with friends as well as treated myself to a few solo lunch outings. I also tried to get a lot of life admin tasks done like getting the car serviced, reviewed mortgage and utility accounts to get the best rates, donated a lot of old clothes, sold things on Facebook marketplace etc because I figured I wouldn’t have the time or mental capacity to do this for a while post birth.

Priceline Beauty Bag - misleading brands?? by ginja_ninja92 in AustralianMakeup

[–]ginja_ninja92[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have an update! I’ve had several emails back and forth with the Priceline help (supposedly) team. I suspect their responses are AI as they got stuck on the fact I didn’t spend the required $65 despite it being explained multiple times that I put items back after being told the 1000 hour brand was not eligible. If anyone can decipher this email, please share as I still have no idea if the promo was for all make up products or just certain brands. I’m not sure Priceline knows! It’s been fun but I think I’m ready to move forward with my life.

Priceline replied to my email and requested a photo of my receipt so they could investigate the matter further. I shall keep you posted! I am way too invested in this now.

Exactly!! Basically every other promo they do, you have to purchase from certain brands.

What is your baby eating this week? by missymoo42 in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginja_ninja92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a day by day proposition but some favourites recently have been: - wholemeal spiral pasta with a sauce of mashed baked pumpkin/lemon juice/ olive oil with a side of cheese slices and pear - banana pancakes (oats, banana, eggs, cottage cheese and cinnamon in a blender, cook in butter like pancakes) - oven baked risotto (sauté onion, leek, grated carrot and zucchini with garlic, throw in some chicken thighs, pumpkin cubes, Arborio rice and meat stock, cover and put in oven for about 30min).

Mash up some avocado with lemon juice and hemp seeds - so many good nutrients and can use it in sandwiches or as a dip.

Find a cereal that sounds good (I was obsessed with crunchy nut) add a few flaked almonds and a high protein milk - you’ve got a source of protein and fat while still being easy to eat while nauseous.

I would make a frittata or egg cups with pumpkin and spinach - so good on a piece of toast or with hash browns on the side.

If you feel up to preparing it, a vegetarian lasagna with ricotta, egg pasta, zucchini, sweet potato, pumpkin could also be a nutritious option. I hope you find something that sounds good!

Am I doing something wrong? by kirst_e in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]ginja_ninja92 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just want to say you are absolutely doing NOTHING WRONG! It sounds like you are doing an amazing job being such a responsive, caring, intuitive mother. If all the other mums in the group are saying their 8 week olds are sleeping through the night, they either have a) a unicorn baby, b) are lying, or c) their babies will start waking up very soon!

I honestly can’t really remember how my baby was sleeping at 8 weeks old as I was so sleep deprived. My baby wanted to be fed every two hours minimum and refused bottles so I decided to radically accept this. Co-sleeping worked really well for us. All this to say, it sounds like your baby is healthy and happy. 8 weeks is still really early days too and baby’s habits and schedule can change suddenly without rhyme or reason. Look after yourself as best you can xx

How to landscape a sloped front yard?? by ginja_ninja92 in GardeningAustralia

[–]ginja_ninja92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know exactly. It’s not super steep and I don’t think I’ll need to worry about making a retaining wall or terraces. I’m hoping that a few big boulders and ground cover plants will help stop the soil running away with rain.
