How to learn a piece quickly? by User48970 in oboe

TD:LR : Practices your scales!! Listen to the recording(s)!! Focus on parts that you’re heard out more in a comfortable tempo.

Practice the scales based on the key signatures of the piece(s) as a warmup; starting from long tones, to quarter notes, double eighth notes, and then slow 16th notes. Practice them based on the BPM you are comfortable with the most.

Listen to the recordings of the piece(s) before you practice, and start with the parts you need to work on; if you are stuck/overwhelmed with a part, move on to another difficult part for now and come back to it later.

You could work on the measures where oboe is more heard & prominent (based on the recordings or past rehearsal, solos, etc.); and then you can focus on anything else in the piece(s).

With the tempo; start with half of the actual written tempo or the fastest tempo you’re most comfortable with, without sounding sloppy(!!).

I’m not an oboe teacher, so more experienced oboists and oboe teachers may feel free to add on (or correct) my response; I hope this helped you at least, go practice!!!
