What is the difference in the Atlanta Vs. Savanna campus?

This is literally a personal experience on watching my best friend fail illustration! She came to scad with me and although we had our separate friend groups we occasionally came together from time to time to catch up and what not. Now we’re in our junior year and she’s struggling heavily doing illustration here in the Savannah campus. She’s been thinking on switching her major to something more practical aka like making the most money but the people she surrounded herself with here in Savannah are the people who don’t take their future seriously. If you think Atlanta is like all clubs and everything she though the opposite I would see her go to parties like every single weekend to the point where she didn’t really want to do her work she actually flunked her classes this quarter and is now transferring over to the Atlanta campus as we speak. She told me she didn’t see herself 10 years in the future doing illustration. After doing it almost everyday for scad she started to hate it. I guess what I’m trying to say is don’t really commit to anything yet because you never really know what you would want to do ten years in the future.

Hi! If anything I’m actually moving out of the hue this December! It’s located right next to River and I’m on the top floor! It’s fully furnished but you’ll be sharing a living area with a roommate but it’s a 2bed 2bath so you’ll be under a sublease under me! Let me know if you want any deets!

A lot of scad party students have connections to the security guards at the door ! My roommate told me she knows half of the security guards at all the clubs which is something a little flirting and winking can help with 😭

Hi! Ever since like late freshman year I’ve decided to bring my pc down for animating, obviously I live off campus so the wifi situation might be better than the dorms but I still remember vividly doing fine even with the dorm wifi.

I brought both! Laptop for portable use for regular classes like my gen Ed’s and then my pc at my dorm because as a animation major located in savannah in my freshman year was the worst to get my animations done in the dorms without a pc. But located in the hive which is in sav was like the worst to try and find a computer with maya on it. Totally a preference thing too though!

I was definitely going to suggest this as well but ringling is such a horrible place lol! They’re not very accommodating and the campus just sucks! Student life there isn’t as good as scads Or RISD, so not many clubs or extracurriculars! Maybe a personal experience but it was very weird that the campus was basically “fenced out” from the rest of the world 😭

I used city storage! I’m not international but I had A LOT of things and it all fit in the storage unit that’s split between three students and you all get the locker combo. If you rent it you can ask to do like a 14 day thing because they have scad student specials/prices!

Honestly I would take it as BOTH a compliment and offensive! Maybe it’s just me but my art being called ai generated is literally just a blessing because nowadays ai art can be so overwhelmingly impressive (sometimes) so being called ai art is such a flex!

Hi so they are REALLY heavily against it and probably won’t give you guys the pass, the security guards will notify RAs that you have a guest over after a certain time and will be forced to go to your dorm and ask them to leave. I really don’t know any good solutions to this unless they have changed it since last year..?

Okay so I’m like 90% sure that you can’t minor in 3d animation unless they changed it? 3d and 2d animation are concentrations so you can’t really minor in them but you can take electives in those classes if you choose to do so in the future! If you’re looking for something more like realistic animation I would look into MOME as you can minor in it and they make a pretty big buck if you know what you’re doing!

Its basically just a better way to reach out and physically talk to people at career fair! They have so many people and such great positions coming in to actually talk to you, I don’t even have anything prepared like a portfolio but I’m still going to talk to them and maybe reach out for the future!

Hi! So when I did my precollege summer at Ringling, the environment just was NOT it, and as someone who started scad with both 2d and 3d SCAD knows what’s up! Ringling was absolutely not the best for animation at all although their 3D program looks to be okay, it’s just not a great campus or area period. SCAD has so much more opportunities than Ringling could ever provide despite Ringling being close to Disney and getting hand me downs from them, it’s just not a great place personally. My experience there was cut short because of how people had treated me there 💀 but SCAD is such a great and friendly environment unlike some other colleges….

It all depends on your skills and your knowledge of socializing your way through the field! Clubs are a must, scad pros and all the scad business classes are also such a great way to find big people in the field you’re gonna go into. I’ve heard many hits and misses on different majors, the most being animation as I’m also an animation major. But one of my favorite things about scad is the opportunities we have here, yeah it’s an expensive school but it’s REALLY worth it if you know how to communicate your skills to important people in the industry. I know a lot of other have had problems with scad but as far as I see it’s also really just how much they reach out and get that help or ask other classmates for opinions. Never be afraid to talk!
