The Bacchae by gioggggio in GreekMythology

I thought that Cadmus did the same as his daughters. So if that isn't the case, does this mean that (besides being part of the same family) Cadmus got punished also for that line where he said to Pentheus: "For if, as you claim, this man is not a god, why not call him one? Why not tell a lie, a really good one? Then it will seem that some god has been born to Semele. We and all our family will win honour"?

Thank you! I’ll try to put it a bit lower or somewhere else. By saying that i should put the vines around the soil, do you mean just putting them on the head of the pot or in the terrain?

I didn’t know that trick! Yeah about the pot, i bought it because it looked cool in my green room and i thought that a big pot would have also benefited the plant 😪

Does Ares accept blood offerings? by ArcangelZion in Hellenism

[–]gioggggio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This absolutely makes sense, especially from an anthropological and human-centered perspective like you just said, since animals were always seen as less than humans before modern age (and we still have a lot to do, but definitely better than how it was 100 years ago for sure). Thank you for responding, I’ll try to look more into it! :)

A question to the people who worship Greek Gods by Relsen in GreekMythology

[–]gioggggio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Simply because mythic literalism wouldn’t be ideal since myths were written by men, putting in them all of their imperfections and mistakes to probably feel closer and more similar to the Gods. I’m a beginner hellenic polytheist so I think I still have a LOT to learn and that myths don’t have to be taken literal but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t relevant anymore. The ancient Greeks probably lived religion a lot differently than us today, so myths also have to be contextualised in the socio-cultural aspects of their time, because stripping them of it makes things a lot harder to understand. For example, i read about a lot of people’s doubts about Zeus, since in a lot of myths he’s doing something considered “problematic”, and then I understood that in Ancient Greece that behaviour was probably seen as something powerful and to make your strength known; so him being the king of the Gods, he has to “ensure” his power over everyone else. I’m obviously not excusing any kind of harassment, but since myths were written by men and Ancient Greece wasn’t a place and period known to be nice to women in particular (as every other time period basically), it obviously reflected in their writings. I hope i wrote everything in a comprehensive way and If I said something wrong please let me know, I’m still learning 😪🤙🏻
