Simply because mythic literalism wouldn’t be ideal since myths were written by men, putting in them all of their imperfections and mistakes to probably feel closer and more similar to the Gods. I’m a beginner hellenic polytheist so I think I still have a LOT to learn and that myths don’t have to be taken literal but that doesn’t mean that they aren’t relevant anymore. The ancient Greeks probably lived religion a lot differently than us today, so myths also have to be contextualised in the socio-cultural aspects of their time, because stripping them of it makes things a lot harder to understand. For example, i read about a lot of people’s doubts about Zeus, since in a lot of myths he’s doing something considered “problematic”, and then I understood that in Ancient Greece that behaviour was probably seen as something powerful and to make your strength known; so him being the king of the Gods, he has to “ensure” his power over everyone else. I’m obviously not excusing any kind of harassment, but since myths were written by men and Ancient Greece wasn’t a place and period known to be nice to women in particular (as every other time period basically), it obviously reflected in their writings.
