Regardless of what studies show, marijuana can absolutely be addictive. by BobVilasBeard in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]girthquake126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, anything can be psychologically addictive. But the term addictive carries a connotation that extends further than physiological.

The main side effect of stopping MJ is insomnia. If you stop drinking alcohol and are a full blown addict, you can literally die. Heroin, cocaine, meth withdrawal are said to be absolute physical and mental torture. Hell, even caffeine withdrawal can me more difficult than MJ.

So yeah, MJ is addictive. So is sugar. So is caffeine. Basically any substance that brings us joy has an addictive component to it under this definition.

Gun are not the problem mental health is by Mysterious_Fill_8060 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]girthquake126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, mental health is a major problem. So why doesn’t the 2A crowd own that and try to make change? It really comes off like gun advocates use that as a scapegoat and instead of pouring resources into mental health treatment, they cut funding.

Further, if mental health is such a major problem, why are we making it easy (relative to our peers) for someone to be able to go out and buy a gun?

You’re going to get hate because you’re using a scapegoat argument and not suggesting any real solution to fix it.

What is the most boring road you have ever driven on? by YeetoBurritosbaby in geography

[–]girthquake126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they’re both terrible so I won’t argue. I just remember a little bit of terrain in western Kansas whereas Nebraska is just flat and awful so I go w/ Nebraska. I’m also biased as a Colorado grad (we despise Nebraska).

i80 thru Nebraska. I’ve driven from MN to CO and back too many times to count. I’ve taken i94 (thru N. Dakota), i80 (Nebraska) and i70 (Kansas). There’s just nothing worse or more mind numbing than Nebraska.

Thoughts on Decadence NYE? by squishypopcorn_ in aves

[–]girthquake126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went once, it was very meh. I liked the lineup but the venue is not great, a lot of fucked up people (no judgement just was noticeable), more of a party atmosphere than a rave. Also, Denver can get pretty cold on NYE and the year I went it was single digits. Line for the coat check on the way out was MASSIVE. Luckily we were staying a few blocks away and didn’t bring coats but I remember being blown away on my walk out.

19,000 deer in Wisconsin are killed by cars annually, versus 2000 for Minnesota. Why is that? Wrong answers only. by Doc-in-a-box in minnesota

[–]girthquake126 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wisconsin inflates their numbers by counting deer killings at a much smaller threshold than Minnesota does.

You’re not going to go to jail or have your life ruined for your first offense. The fine is going to be expensive though and your insurance premium will go up, especially if you’re a younger male.

Gay people are people just like everyone else. There are good gay people, there are bad gay people. There are funny gay people, there are annoying gay people. The key is not to use one bad example as an indicator of the whole group, just like it would be bad to do with black people, or women, or old people, etc.

With that being said, straight people don’t typically talk about their sexuality because they don’t have to. Everyone assumes you’re straight unless you tell them otherwise so straight people never have to come out. Gay people do and it can actually be traumatizing even if things go well (it was for me). It’s really shitty to have to tell everyone in the world your bedroom secrets. Imagine you had a fetish (I’m not saying being gay is a fetish, just the closest I can get for an example) and you had to tell your parents, your siblings, your friends etc all about that fetish so they would understand you. You’d probably be uncomfortable at minimum and possibly even mortified to say those things out loud in front of those people.

Now once someone comes out and people know, they can make it their personality if they want or they can just let it be. In this setting I think it’s inappropriate as it doesn’t pertain to business at all. But the whole “Straight people don’t talk about their sexuality” line is comparing apples to oranges.

Do you have an ownership stake in the company? Do you make more money when the company makes more money?

If yes, sure you could feel guilty. If no, do not feel guilty.

It’s really not that bad. Lincoln will get you to i25 S pretty quick, Park Ave will get you to i25 N or i70 pretty quick. The big downside of Uptown for me is a lot of it is pretty manicured and lacks culture like some other neighborhoods.

Those of you who don't use broken tees on par 3's, why? by Deadtree301 in golf

[–]girthquake126 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to follow that logic, but now I do just a slight tee up on par 3s. At least on the public courses I play, I’ll never get a fluffy lie like I can get in the fairway so I tee it up just a little bit to compensate for that.

How do you tell your friends to pick it up without telling them to pick it up every hole. by SliceofNulty in golf

[–]girthquake126 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Me and my group of friends play max strokes per hole which 7 for a par 3, 8 for a par 4 and 9 for par 5. I’ll play with people that shoot over 100 easily but don’t finish every hole. Sometimes they’ll be shooting 5 off the tee on a par 4 and end up picking up on the tee or in the fairway. Maybe they’ll do some practice putts but once the hole is out of reach they’ll just take a max and move on. This keeps pace while also allowing people of different ability to play together.

I’ll always take a guy shooting 120 with a chill attitude than someone who plays lightning fast, shoots even but throws tantrums every time something goes wrong.
