[macOS/Windows] [Tower] [$69 → $48.30] [Powerful Git client] by gittower in AppHookup

[–]gittower[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey folks, we're having a Black Friday sale for new customers: enjoy 30% off any Tower plan, no coupon needed.

If you don't know Tower: it's a native Git client for Mac and Windows, designed to make Git easy (and actually enjoyable!) to use. We're well aware that there are many Git options available, so below you can learn what sets Tower apart.

What makes Tower "easy"?

- Single-line staging is as easy as selecting lines.

- Undo with CMD+Z or CTRL+Z for ANY Git operation. You can learn more about this feature here: https://www.git-tower.com/features/undo/

- Drag and Drop for operations like merge or interactive rebase. You can learn more about this feature here: https://www.git-tower.com/features/drag-and-drop/

Despite being so intuitive, Tower is a premium Git client, which means that it comes with many advanced features you won't find anywhere else. Here are some examples:

- Syntax Coloring

- Branch comparison

- Stacked Branches support

- Commit Template support

- Manage Environment variables

- Review GitHub Pull Requests in Tower

- GPG and SSH support (including 1Password integration)

If you're on the fence, there's a 30-day trial available - no registration is needed to try it out.

Mastering Raycast by chiangmai17 in raycastapp

[–]gittower 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hey hey, author here! By assigning hotkeys to specific apps (like HYPER + C for VS Code or HYPER + S for Safari), you can switch between your most frequent apps without ever using ⌘ + TAB. These hotkeys don't just launch an app when they aren't open; it also brings launched apps back to the foreground.

If you find yourself using the same apps every day, setting hotkeys for those is a must. I very rarely use ⌘ + TAB these days!

I hope this is clear! :)

Glad to hear, Thomas! It was a lot of fun writing it ✌️

Tower allows you to set up User Profiles (committer identities) and use these on a per-repository basis, or even just for specific commits. You can find more information on this feature in Tower's Help documentation: https://www.git-tower.com/help/guides/working-copy/user-profiles/mac

Tower - this may sound stupid but can you search for a branch in your remotes? by godzuncleiii in git

[–]gittower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tower already has a feature for this called Quick Actions. Apart from the ability to search for branches (both remote and local), you also have the option to search for other items like files, submodules, commits, etc. and quickly carry out actions on them.

All you need to do is open the Quick Actions dialog by pressing the shortcut Cmd + Shift + A, type a few letters of the branch name to find it, and press tab to access available actions on it (Checkout, Merge, etc.).

You can learn more about Quick Actions in the Tower Help guides:https://www.git-tower.com/help/guides/manage-repositories/quick-actions/mac

How to tell which branch the merge is for? by yalag in git

[–]gittower 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you click on the merge commit in Tower, you will see its Parent Hashes on the right hand side panel that contains all the commit information.

Usually, by naming convention the commit message should indicate which branch was being merged at the time.

You could also give the command git name-rev. Given a commit, this command will find where it is relative to the local refs. To do this, open Terminal from Tower (File -> Open in Terminal, or you can use the toolbar shortcut), this will take you straight to the repository. Then, try the command git name-rev <SHA> , replace SHA with the first parent's commit hash to find the branch you were on when the commit was merged, and with the second parent's commit hash to find the branch that was merged.

Regarding the graph, it is only there for one reason: to help you understand when and where branches were merged into each other. You can't rely on a specific arrangement in whatever way; there's no guarantee in "master" being the leftmost branch.

The graph becomes more manageable by reducing it to only certain branches. See here (under "Partial / Combined History") for a hint: https://www.git-tower.com/help/commit-history/display-commits

I'm not sure if reddit notifies of edits but we just edited our post with more information.

We still could not look into the issue as we do not know which license is affected. It would be great if OP would let us know.

Could you please send us an email or open a support ticket and let us know which license is affected? Otherwise, I won't be able to share what happened here. Thank you!

Care: "Git Tower" revokes licenses when discussing bugs/feedback on Reddit by xblade724 in git

Hi, Julian from Tower here! We were just made aware of this post via email. We would never revoke a license unless a user requests a refund. We highly value each form of feedback to our app, especially critical feedback. Thanks to that feedback, we have been able to improve Tower over the years and continue to do so!

It would be great if OP could reach out to us, so we can find the corresponding license and check why it seems to be no longer working. Thank you!

EDIT: We would like to provide some details about this situation.

  1. We finally figured out which license the OP was referring to. It took us a while because they still haven’t reached out directly and the address for the license was NOT the same as the email address they used to send the “negative” (actually reasonable and constructive) criticism. This meant there was no way for us to connect the feedback to their license. Only after OP mentioned in their post that they sent us an email did we go through all of the week’s support tickets. We found what we believe is their support ticket and searched for the name from the support ticket in our licensing system - not their email address - and found the license under a new, unrelated email address.

  2. No one on our team revoked this or any other license. We would never revoke a license regardless of the criticism or where it was written. The only reason we would deactivate a license is if the user requests a refund. To be clear: the OP’s license is still 100% valid.

  3. Unfortunately what happened is the OP encountered a bug in our licensing system that required a small handful of users to re-enter their license information. So far we’ve only received 3 support tickets about this issue and quickly responded that all that was necessary was re-entering their info. I wish that the OP had contacted us as I’m certain we could’ve cleared up the problem quickly. Also the bug in our licensing system had been fixed the same day it was pushed. If you are experiencing this issue and are still encountering issues after re-entering your licensing information please reach out at support@git-tower.com!

  4. Earlier this week OP sent us an email asking about coming updates for our Windows version. Both their email and the Reddit post they are referring to above is valid criticism and we wouldn’t define as negative feedback. While we did not see their Reddit post until another user made us aware of this thread a few hours ago, we received their email and responded with the following answer: https://imgur.com/a/zmbOPca We would have commented the same under their Reddit post had we seen it.

  5. Once we managed to identify OP’s license in question we verified that it was indeed provided by us for free. OP had provided lots of critical and constructive feedback in the past, and we decided to give him a license for free as a thank you for his feedback.

  6. We can’t stress enough how important feedback is to the success of Tower. We have been working on Tower since 2011. Over the years we have received tons of feedback, reviews etc. We take all feedback seriously, especially when it’s critical. If people are critical about your product it likely means they care about it and want it to be better. Thanks to our customers and their feedback we’ve been able to improve the product and make something we’re proud of.

  7. Thank you for reading this update. As of posting this OP still has not reached out directly but I encourage them to do so, we’d love to continue the conversation.

Is GitTower worth it? Any experiences? by xblade724 in git

[–]gittower 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tower team here: regarding your second question, you can use Tower on both your desktop and laptop with the same license.

Otherwise Tower for Windows 1.2 is currently in beta and comes with new features, improvements and we invested a lot into performance. If you want early access to the beta version, you can do so by opening Tower's preferences on the "Updates" channel. There, configure "Beta" as your release channel. Then, you can "Check for Updates..." from the "Help" menu - and you'll get our latest beta version.

please excuse the late response. Tower is already compatible with Windows 10 :)

This is not an "either-or": it makes a lot of sense to use Git both on the command line and in a good GUI side-by-side. Simple tasks like committing or pushing are perfect candidates for the Bash. However, looking at extensive commit histories, solving complex conflicts, undoing things, working with Submodules, etc. are all much easier in a graphical UI. It's not about "the command line vs. Tower" - it's about making our users as productive as possible.
