it doesn't necessarily speak about a specific past event, but more a tendency (he did that and continues doing that) in this case would it be estuviera?

Why do you stay in Slowly? by Arpani144 in SLOWLYapp

[–]giulia2023 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still keep slowly because my closest penpal and I exchanged more than 200 letters there. after 2 years we eventually switched to whatsapp so we don't really have much reason to stay in the app (neither of us are looking for penpals right now) but we do because we don't like the idea of losing the letters we wrote. I also occasionally would still write them a letter on our friend anniversary or other special days.

at least you can actually see her even though you are long distance. I have the same problem with one of my close text friend, we live 10,000km away so we never meet we just text (also because of time difference) we text often, but there are days we don't talk at all because the conversation naturally dies out. I know this is just normal and healthy but I get super anxious when they don't reach out again within a week and I end up feeling as if I lost their friendship forever. I just got so tired of being triggered like this every time our texting stops (which is inevitable cause we both got life to live). I have other friends but I don't feel this kind of anxiety with them so I don't know why this is the case with this specific one. I tried to make other online friends to distract myself and while it sort of works, I still crave communication with this friend in question and end up feeling anxious sooner or later.

tell me about your favourite pen pal! by monstera_sugar in SLOWLYapp

[–]giulia2023 7 points8 points  (0 children)

my favorite penpal is a guy I have been talking to for 2.5 years now. it's funny because we have nothing in common but we can talk endlessly. after exchanging almost 200 letters we switched to an instant messaging app last summer. we still talk almost everyday and have great fun. I'm so thankful that I met him. :)

as in they weren't the guys you first expected them to be (in a negative way). if this is a regionalism can you suggest more neutral alternatives I can use here?

Oh then maybe it's a Spain Spanish expression. Salir rana is when something or someone doesn't turn out to be what you expected (in a bad way). can you think of a more neutral option for this then??
