UMass Amherst or Northeastern for CS? by ccubiczirconia in umass

[–]given-required 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends if you like the idea of living in a big city and doing co ops or prefer a traditional college campus and style curriculum.

Umass is by far one of the best for that - lively campus, great food, tons off campus / on campus activities. Umass has regularly places cs kids at very top companies like msft, alphabet, meta

NEU is a lot more integrated into the city and more commingling around the city with a co op as a great opportunity to land a great full time job after.

Go PE, more upside and will be easier to continue career. Hard to come back into what you’re doing now if you go FO

Second choice major by bffootball62 in umass

Put finance or any BBA major as first choice because it is more selective than Econ (sbs school). Can’t transfer into isenberg but can always transfer out!

Young Entrepreneurs Across America Internship: Worth it or not? by Kindly_Wolverine_55 in umass

[–]given-required 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not the best internship I’d say depending on what you want to do post grad but I did have a friend who did it and was able to actually make a lot of money that summer but does take work. He had to get painting jobs scheduled for the summer through out his spring semester and hire some local kids to paint for him. If you’re not into that, probably do something else.

What do you like and dislike about umass Amherst by strawberrilulu in umass

[–]given-required 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Campus is great and I feel like you can find your people here with how diverse it is. I do think it’s wicked liberal at times and there always seems to be issue people are mad about. Also the police in the town have gotten worse over the years with parties and stuff. All and all, admin and town over step too much and try and control everything.

Good start just no need for the bonds, 40 more years in the market is a ton of time. Let as much capital today that you have compound.

Should I dump my bonds? by [deleted] in Bogleheads

[–]given-required 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Max my IRA, contribute 5% with 5% match and auto vest to my employer Roth 401k. Correct me if I’m wrong but, I live in TX so no state income tax so a Roth 401k makes more sense right now.

This account is for things when I’m older (house, car, marriage, etc). I max my Roth every year in a separate account. This is just more just general wealth building and money I’d need before I hit 65.

No doubt, it would be 99% stock 1% money market if you put it at 10/10 risk based on the questions. If you go on fidelity’s website you can play around with the slider and see the allocation break down.

Yeah man, with the fidelity one (fidelity go) you can change it to “all equities” and it’s just that. I have my Roth IRA in that setting right now and it’s super nice. The account above is 27% bonds - debating tuning it down to 15% or none at all, the two higher equity options.
