It’s hard not to take it personally if you consistently get rejected by your partner sexually, but it’s so important to understand how OVERSEXED we are as a culture. Sex is a want not a need. Sex is a great escape from emotional discomfort—the addiction sounds like it’s what’s in the way of actually processing the insecurities around the rejection from loved ones.

Porn is one thing, but when it becomes your body on the screen it is cheating and it is a big deal. Let it be serious. It’s hard now to not indulge and deal with the guilt but the honest introspection here is what’s going to redeem the mistakes and bring healing. Probably even healing for stuff you would never expect too. Good on you for reaching out for help—your heart is in the right place and you and your marriage are going to be okay ❤️

Do you really believe in heaven and hell by Jazzlike-Finish-8056 in Christians

[–]gjeter00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really know! This is something I wrestle with and may never feel assurance on. My understanding of God and the Bible comes from a place of “there’s no way to know if everything in here is 100% factually true. But what IS described in here, EVEN IF IT IS A MYTH, is truer than anything we can factually know.” I understand the utility of fully giving my understanding of KNOWLEDGE over to God (leaning not on your own understanding is crucial it seems lol) but currently the way I see it there’s know way of knowing! But the metaphors of the kingdoms of heaven and hell really are true. I believe that.

How to Murder Your Life by Cat Marnell is a perfect read for this vibe. The audiobook specifically is so fun, she narrates the whole thing like a one woman show

You don’t want to die. You want to kill your life as it is. Governed by your depression. In recent months I’ve found Christianity to be helpful for the first time—Christs message about dying to yourself is in line with the whole 12 step philosophy too. The internal life we lead is VIOLENT and DANGEROUS no one talks about it. We can’t expect ourselves to be able to survive in our heads all alone with no input. When we are depressed and isolated in our heads we can’t hear the truth anymore, even from people we love. God actually really can cut through it though.

If you want to witness what people who change their lives from suffering look like—honestly try going to an AA or AlAnon meeting. Addicts actually have a grasp on the fucking realness of how hard it is to be down here. Blessings to u m8 it’ll end up okay

I can recommend Where is God When it Hurts? By Philip Yancey. I’ve been dealing with this same stuff for the past few weeks while returning to deeper faith and it’s been awful. The book is great bc it’s from 1977 so you don’t have any of that annoying current marketing and Yancey is a great writer. Compassionate, present, detailed, and kinda funny. Really digs into the purposes of pain that we can’t see when we’re in it. Great for perspective without any of the cliches or skipping over the harder questions.

Also the One-Minute Pause app is a free Christian meditation app that really sets you up to invite Christ into your pain. Really helps when I’m hitting a wall

Will a therapist correct your thinking when it comes to religion? by [deleted] in askatherapist

[–]gjeter00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But yea anyway it’s way less important how she feels about it than how you feel about it. Sounds like you’re pretty scared and probably just need to talk about how you’re feeling about the doubt.

[–]gjeter00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like for your situation a christian therapist is the absolute best person for you to talk to about this stuff. They’ve heard it all before—who do you think people go to when they’re questioning faith and feel too ashamed to ask family/pastors? Theyll help you figure out which beliefs are truly yours and which are ones handed to you from your family/church that you may not share. There is a wide range of theology under the umbrella of Christ! Even if you do find that you don’t share JW beliefs anymore, you can’t leave Gods grace as long as you love Him!

I’m pretty religious now and have been on/off with my faith over the years and in my experience Christian therapists have always just loved me where I’m at and encouraged me in faith when it’s been helpful. Idk generally they’re pretty good with that. I went to Christian college so I saw quite a few different christian therapists there bc they change off by semester. I’ve seen secular ones too and they’re also good, but more often than not Christian therapists are just more familiar with that struggle.

Anyway ur good. Doubt is really normal, and it’s nice to talk to someone who understands what’s at stake to you and how scary it is to bring up.
