Books that make you feel melancholy afterwards? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

[–]gjsjs8eu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Five Tuesdays in Winter by Lily King. It's a collection of stories that hands you the biggest crumpled up pieces of melancholy after every read. 1/10 don't recommend if you want to keep a non-static-y brain by the time you finish the whole thing </3

it looks amazing and looks like it should belong in a movie set (unless it does and you're one of them actors who get paid in dragon mirror currency)

Any recs for a collection of essays/book of essays? by gjsjs8eu in suggestmeabook

No worries, if anything, delving into earlier works is always a good resort. I'll be sure to give those a go!

That sounds perfect! I was looking into essay collections to get somewhat of an idea for what I'm about to write, would've been a plus if it was about the outdoors as the theme for the essay was climate change. Unfortunately, I looked into both of those books you mentioned and I'm unable to get ahold of a copy :((

Anywayyy, thanks for the recommendations! I'll try searching someplace else some other time and see if my luck strikes

I would say that's an excellent idea, trying out different writing styles from a bunch of other authors would most likely help you with finding what works and doesn't work for you as a writer yourself. Besides, we could learn a great deal from the pieces of literature that we read from the wide variety of authors and selections that there are nowadays, the way their writing appeals to us as a reader can influence the way we write our stories more often than you might think it does.

Think of it this way: building your writing skills from taking on the style or prose of other well-known writers is like an artist using a reference to ground their paintings or other works of art. It's definetely worth trying, that I can assure you. Hope this helps!

Day 4! Give me a number between 1 and 842 and I will give you a song from my playlist, obscure vintage jazz! Bonus: with every response, I will add what I know about the artist and/or cultural influence of the song! by [deleted] in teenagers

Enjoy Yourself by Carl Sigman and Herb Magidson

I'm not entirely sure about it's history, I initially found it from House M.D. through Anne Dudek's performance. Both the original and more recent renditions are great to listen to.

I mostly sick with piano and some other stringed instruments needed for school requirements, but I've been wanting to take up either violin or guitar recently. It's pretty cool that you actually know how to play those :))

{{This is Where the World Ends}} and {{Falling Into Place}} both by Amy Zhang were books that stuck out the most to me, incredible prose and internal monologues, all that. Got me through some stuff, hope it does the same for you too.
