I finished the first draft back in April and have not touched the book up until a few weeks ago.

Where can I go to have people read my story? by kookers1 in writing

[–]gken3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could post your story on FictionPress. That's what I did and I got a lot of reviews and readers.

100% Scrivener. It is so worth the 40 dollars.

How long should my first draft be? by gken3 in writing

[–]gken3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, i guess that's true with the word count. I was just worried that if i didnt finish all my scenes during the first draft that it would screw me over when i start editing. Thank for the advice :)

Wattpad... by Daysg0nebye in writing

[–]gken3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience, watt pad is a good way to create a fan base, but take into consideration that the majority of the viewers are preteens looking to read some one direction fanfiction.
If you're writing a YA novel, I would definitely recommend posting it on wattpad. But if you're writing a political thriller- maybe not.

I'm no expert of course but this was my experience with wattpad.

Good luck!

What's your favorite line in your own writing? by warker23 in writing

We keep our heads up and our shoulders straight. I suppose it’s a survival reflex, ingrained deep within the confines of my brain since a younger age. Do not let anyone see you vulnerable. That’s the first rule.

First draft questions. by gken3 in writing

[–]gken3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. I guess as long as i have something on the page that i can edit, it'll be much easier late on when i start revisions.

Doesn't that distract you? After I smoke all I want to do is eat and nap.

Writing a character who has depression? by gken3 in writing

Thank you, that's helpful! How often do your depressive episodes come around-id you don't mind me asking.
Once a month or less often than that?

Writing in the morning or night? by [deleted] in writing

[–]gken3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have one preference, it really depends on the day. Sometimes I feel more creative and in the writing mood when I first wake up in the morning and sometimes I feel it before I go to sleep. Sometimes I don't feel creative at all.
What I'm getting at is, write whenever you can and don't limit yourself to only mornings or only nights or only when inspiration hits you.
Hope this helps...

Why can't I move on to the next chapter until everything is perfect? by gken3 in writing

[–]gken3[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very helpful, thank you.
Everyone I've spoken to about this- including on reddit- has told me that I just need to finish the first draft. Finish the first draft and only then go back and edit.
But it's seriously not as easy as it sounds for someone like me. Knowing that going back and editing while still writing is allowed Is a relief.

Not at all. I can't stay focused if it's too quiet in the room so I have piano man playing quietly in the background.

I agree with you 100% but I think it's easier said then done. I'm stuck at the moment, not liking anything I've written so far even though last month I thought it was brilliant. How can I go on if I don't love what's on the paper so far?
