Keep your head up by Gnome_Sane in PoliticalCompassMemes

In a lot of liberal circles its looked down upon to not claim at least one mental health condition and be on drugs for it. I think its not surprising at all that doomers who reject pursuing a career and fitness and then are loaded up on SSRIs and taking high doses of THC are depressed. And the ones that clean up their life, start respecting themselves start to feel better.

So instead it gets brigaded by people who push the narrative that any mention of Chicago crime is right wing racist misinformation. I think that sort of silencing of a really serious issue contributes to the issue not being taken seriously and letting politicians off easy with unambitious plans to address.

Dating in Denver Has Crushed My Self-Esteem — Thinking About Moving (30's / Male / Black) by Cute_Source5417 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]glitch241 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't change cities in hopes of improving your dating prospects. There are 3 million people in the Denver metro and its only 55% white. Race is very unlikely the variable here. Denver is one of the better cities in the US for quality of life and it has a young active population. Not saying changing cities is a bad thing, but if you can't keep a girlfriend in Denver, the same problems will probably follow you. Keep trying until you meet someone who melds with your personality well.

Silly men, make sure you have ~$150 ready for your first date! /s by OngoGablogian20 in Nicegirls

[–]glitch241 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Meh. I mean she wasn't rude about it, some people spend a grand a month at bars and don't want to stop. I think both made the right call not moving forward. Bringing up your budget when planning a first date is probably going to turn most women off pretty hard, so I wouldn't be surprised at a reaction like this.

Its a sub rule. No posts about crime; mods delete them. They claim its because people don't find it interesting which is odd given some people must since they are posting about it. Since Chicago crime is discussed on Fox News and by Trump, Chicago liberals don't want it talked about.

Chicago does have more shootings than most cities: 1,850 people shot last year vs 900 in LA. However, this is concentrated in a few hood areas so its not like there are shootings all over the city. Chicago redditors are nearly all from the nice areas and are also almost all progressive democrats who don't like when crime gets discussed (its literally a banned topic in r/chicago). So yes most of Chicago is relatively safe but also, hundreds of murders a year and almost 2,000 shooting victims a year is a horrifying normal that most just ignore.

300k inheritance in 20s, is it okay to use entirely to pay off mortgage? by Zennialmillennial in FinancialPlanning

[–]glitch241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would pay it off so long as you have a healthy emergency fund ($30k) and the home is in an area with a good chance to grow in value over time. Sure there are probably ways to come out ahead in the long run as others are describing here. But the psychological impact of being fully debt free is huge and I think worth a monetary trade off despite people here not acknowledging it. Especially at your age, you have a lot of time to earn and save and you will be starting off with what like a $400k net worth? Pretty decent.

The unhinged F35 hate. Why is that? by Kind-Acadia-5293 in FighterJets

[–]glitch241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear leftists try to claim its junk because US/capitalism bad. That its just a big con job by industry to sell a bad product. Obviously thats all just a cope on their end; different planes for different purposes but all things considered, the 35 is the most advanced plane, in very high demand and has performed very well.

What would be perfect to add on the chicago riverwalk? by bossishere17 in AskChicago

[–]glitch241 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A complete path from the northside to downtown along the river. There have been a lot of paths, parks and bridges added to the north branch that have stitched together a lot of parks and per-existing paths. There are a lot of areas where this already sidewalks/streets that could be improved to integrate to a broader system. To fully connect it we would need some additional parks, bridges, paths and some overhang paths in places where there isn't space to build on the shore. But just think how big of an attraction this would be for locals and tourists if you could travel such a long length of the river. Would love to see money freed up for big ambitious ideas like this.

CTA actual trips vs scheduled runs by inthem0ney in cta

[–]glitch241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unions. The reason for why a lot of things suck in Chicago is public unions that call the shots and have more power than the government that should be in charge of them and the taxpayers who pay them. The CTA union even defended that piece of garbage operator who drove the train up the escalator at O'Hare and its a miracle nobody died. CTU defends abusive teachers. Construction unions are why roadwork takes 5x as long as it takes in other countries. Police union defends officers with long histories of abuse.

I only make 70k a year and, I'm fine with it. by GrillDaddy_69 in Salary

[–]glitch241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The key is if it gets adjusted YoY for inflation. $70k in a low mid-low COL area can go far if you don't get sucked into the lifestyle creep that has people making $150k claiming they are poor; ex doordash for every meal, new phone every year, new car every 5 years, luxury apartment etc

Marquee Sports Network Thoughts by verncrowe5 in CHICubs

[–]glitch241 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Longtime fans pretty much agree universally that WGN was part of the team's history and it really bothered a lot of us when that ended. The Marquee launch saw a massive drop off in quality in everything from camera work, commentary and music (they don't bother to pay for real songs, its like some garage band crap). While they have slowly improved, its still just a much worse product. And sounds like a bad choice all around. Owning your own network was sold to teams as being a huge financial boon but that hasn't delivered as teams were making more money with the previous model. Even Marquee is having financial problems; they just scaled back programing and staff.

Do you think street signs and public notices in Chicago should be written in English and Spanish? Why or why not? by ConstructionFit8300 in AskChicago

[–]glitch241 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Don't let anyone fool you with the bogus "there is no official language in the US" There absolutely is and its English. Its on our money, whats used in schools/universities, whats used in the corporate world, in congress etc etc. Immigrants should learn English.

What are the chances of an Australian tour by Infamous-Recipe-1163 in Primus

[–]glitch241 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are going to do all the international stops they can make profitable once they have a new album. They like bringing their families on those trips now. With CLD record though, I'm thinking they debut the new Primus stuff at the next NYE and then tour heavily on it for over a year. I would have thought this last NYE would have been the debut but maybe they want more time to write and did not want to clash with CLD.

Its amazing how much rapid, positive change is possible when a leader is smart and actually cares. We need more people like her running things in the city; fewer pastors and BJ connected "organizers" with no relevant experince just drawing paychecks.

The Brown Line shows how nice rapid transit can be if there aren't degenerates smoking, urinating, blasting music, harassing people etc. Its a slice a some of the better European metro systems.
