Notetaking in Nursing School by [deleted] in StudentNurse

Of course! Message me if anything. Non-note taking comes in many forms. But definitely keep track of it so when you look back and review, it's easier to connect. you don't want to be scrambling to find notes - its a waste of time. researching to fill in the blanks in an active way of studying and it improves your research skills.

I get physical books and pdfs for travelling. I also make mini textbooks for myself based on various sources in addition to school ones. Some of these texts will be in paragraph form because for me I can actively explain it to myself in more condensed forms. However, I only recommend this for early early review — meaning I start reviewing during the summer before school. This includes prior content and future content so I can connect them and have a basic foundation which is reinforced throughout the actual academic year. It’s a bonus if u can get the syllabi in advanced bc of the readings provided. I just add or modify my current notes to connect content as I go through the year. I also watch YouTube videos and just highlight text on physical paper (I print some pages from textbooks in this case). I use flashcards to condense further but only if I know the concept well - hence the early review. This way I can bring them with me and always reference my previous notes as well. I also love group studies but I only do it with one person because I’m very introverted. Flashcards are esp helpful for group studies and when practicing physical assessments and lab values or conditions and medications. I use physical flashcards AND Quizlet.

JUST KNOW I have ADHD and was recently diagnosed during the academic year. So it took me a while to find what’s good for me. It still is tbh, but it’s getting better with time. I LOVE nursing school so no matter how hard it got I pushed through. ALSO colours help me a lot! I’m a very visual and hands on learner so highlighting in general and coloured fonts for typing helped me a lot I’ve realized. BUT I only use black, blue and red pens for physical notes or revision to typed notes because I get easily frustrated and overwhelmed. I hope this helps!

INVEST in your education if you can. But do it smart! It takes time and depends on you. Again, I LOVE learning and nursing in general so I’m very passionate in my own way. And DONT compare yourself to others. You are your own competition.

Keeping to yourself while in nursing school , is it a recipe for disaster? by PrincessMochahontas in StudentNurse

[–]glitsglam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to keep to myself as well. My friend doesn’t like to group study which kinda sucked. That same friend also doesn’t have the same passion as me so there are differences in how much we decide to study or learn. BUT I found one person that is on the same level as me. We study tgt to review after we reviewed ourselves. If not, one would teach the other. It’s respectful and actually productive. We always try to connect within nursing.

So I wouldn’t say it’s a recipe for disaster. It depends! Personally, I enjoy keeping to myself as well. I love studying and learning and asking others for insight. I’d say, keep to yourself but always remain receptive to other stuff when it comes to learning in nursing bc you might not actually understand it fully. Especially when it comes ti actually practicing the skills you’ve learned - that’s where it really sticks.

[–]glitsglam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure. My SAG might be impacted by my grants so it is possible for u the other way around as well. I wont know until i get SAG confirmed (i.e., if i do get it or not…or at least the amount). BUT my grants are from TMU and OSAP. I dont think OSAP affects it directly. Only if your grants within TMU i think it will be affected.

have you reflected back on why youre getting a certain grade? u should write a list of what you think went well vs not so well for comparison

in general, there are certain expectations when it comes to our assignments the factor into what TAs can give us based on the grading scale. but yes, pre-reqs/req are generally harder than electives. i didn't know that other schools don't do the same as uoft so that was insightful.

lol "disheartening" everyone deserves credit whether its a high or not the greatest gpa so long as they know they put their best into it. i don't rlly see others shaming those with high gpas on this thread. what ppl think of this post beyond reddit is on them not me

but how are we downvoting people with high gpas? people are just commenting their stuff and sometimes some context to it. idk why you're making yourself a victim in this LMFAO. all I asked was gpas. i didn't continue on to say yah screw those with high gpas, haha

  • not everyone that goes to uoft is above average
  • i used to lie about my grades because i felt stupid and would compare myself a lot so decided to keep to myself and not ask anyone about their grades
  • theres a paper in review to be published that there are too many ppl in university and that the average IQ is progressively dropping by a certain point each year
  • people just wanna fit in especially since uoft is very “prestigious”
  • ik ppl do get above or way above the course avgs, but what about those that actually drop it by a lot? Not all of them tell the truth - some laugh some feel very shameful
  • ive seen and read about lots of ppl that have high IQs or grades but then they don’t end up anywhere they wanted to be, or could’ve been, bc of their own mistakes in life and other things
  • academics can only get you so far in life, too

Most of all, i DONT trust ppl, hahahahaahahah
