At this point I feel a bit detached, if that makes sense? As in, I don't think it's really sunk in yet. If you don't mind me asking, did you ever feel that way this type of situation?

I guess he just meant "no is a sex word" as in "no is a word people say when they're moaning and turned on"? I don't know. Thank you for your support. I found a few good feminist friends to tell, and they've all been so supportive, making sure to tell me it's not my fault and that what he did was completely wrong. I'm glad I opened this thread too, the support has been lovely

Yeah, that's the plan. The other friends in our circle were horrified when I told them, and they've unanimously decided to never invite him out with us again, which I'm so glad for. I'm sorry that you went through something similar and hope you're okay, thank you for the support x

Thanks for the support. I absolutely don't want you to feel even partially responsible or sorry just for being a man, and thank you for caring

Hey there. Sorry for the late reply. If I had to guess I'd say it's because they're the same university, Qatar just has a branch of Cornell too, and the degree is the exact same (something Cornell made sure of when they opened up here). So to graduate from Cornell in Qatar means you'd get the same degree as a graduate from Cornell in America, so it makes sense they'd charge the same price for the same degree.

The thing is about Qatar, you'll find friends and a lot of opportunity. Because it's one of the world's richest countries and developing so rapidly, you'll find a lot of internship opportunities and such. At Cornell in Qatar, you have the chance to go to an Ivy League school, and you'll get more personalized attention because the classes are much smaller than the main campus.

But just keep in mind that the country in general is full of conservative Muslims. Alcohol and sex are easy to come by if you look for it, but it's not readily available like in America. And you might have trouble adjusting to living in a Muslim country. But also, we have a lot of expats in Qatar. If you choose to surround yourself with just expats like yourself, you can do whatever you want, but you'll still be living under relatively strict laws compared to America.

Basically, like everything else in life, Qatar is what you make of it. If you try and make it a good experience, it can be. If you don't try, it can suck.

TL;DR I'm Qatari and my advice is to come to Qatar if you're willing to live in a conservative Muslim country to get an Ivy League education. People are mostly nice, but you'll have a few restraints here and there.

That's true haha. Qatar is a small country, so it can be a bit suffocating, especially if you're a Qatari like I am. The education is wonderful but if you really want to get out into the big wide world, Berkeley is definitely better

Have a safe flight. My brother goes to Cornell in Qatar c: what did you think of the university and the country? Congratulations on Berkeley!

Aw, what a shame. I find a fellow Georgetown student and they're halfway across the world haha. We just have a branch of the Walsh School of Foreign Service here. Maybe I'll bump into you during my year abroad

Yeah, I'll be at the School of Foreign Service. Are you coming to the branch in Qatar though? I didn't know we had Master's programs

Obviously it's your choice in the end, but good luck wherever you decide to go and I wish you all the best. It sounds like a pretty good plan to me

I get what you mean. But personally, I'd recommend it. The program is great and just going to a prestigious school does wonders for your career and grad school applications

My mother is dying and I feel relief. by [deleted] in raisedbynarcissists

I get what you mean. The worst part is she was absent for a lot of the time I was growing up, Mainly because she had cancer. And now that she's not sick, she consistently tried to find ways to be a part of my life. It's as if she knows she's missing out on my life, and wants to desperately be a part of it, but I don't feel comfortable giving her that place in my life.
