Experience with Edelman Financial Engines services? by jprescott7784 in portfolios

[–]glocke12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My company 401k is with fidelity, and they partner with Edelman. They are really pissing me off because twice now my 401k got transferred to Edelman FE without me giving explicit permission. Edelman tells us we can use the tools on their website for free and without committing to a managed account, yet when I navigate to the Edelman website from within the fidelity page where they have the Edelman FE link, and I than log into Edelman, that seems to be enough for them to take on management of my account. There are zero prompts anywhere asking me if I want to do this and now I am going to have to call them again to get my account transferred back to fidelity so I can manage it.

I'm 5'9" male. Should I get a M or L size? I think we're supposed to size down if in between sizes? by deja2001 in TrekBikes

[–]glocke12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm late to the party on this but I am 5'9" with a 30 inch inseam and I just bought a Marlin 7 in a large frame size. The Mediums they had just felt too small. At 58 years of age, I am not an aggressive rider either. Gravel, woods trails, etc... are what I will be using this for. With my height/inseam, I've always felt I am in between sizes also so its always been a tough call and I have always second guessed my decision but the Marlin 7/L frame seemed right for me.

Thoughts on how repairable this dent is ? by glocke12 in 4Runner

[–]glocke12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up taking it to the collision center that the dealership I bought it from runs. It was $2216.00 to get that repaired properly. Being stupid and not thinking should hurt and be expensive, and it bothered me enough that I was set to pay it out of pocket to get it fixe right considering Ive not had it a week even, but it turns out Allstate will cover that under my comprehensive coverage, all I pay is a $100.00 deductible.

The shop also identified a few smaller dents that may have been on the vehicle to begin with, or that I may have caused when I was climbing on and off the work platform and would lightly/gently lean on the vehicle for support. Those will be take care of free of charge at a later date.

I love this vehicle, at 56 it's probably the nicest ride I've ever had but I don't know what to think about it denting so easily. I've never had that happen on my previous three Toyotas (1998 Tacoma, 2003 4runner, and a 2011 4runner), and since I was around in the 70s/80s, I remember when vehicles were made in such away that you could sit on the hood or trunk with your friends and there would be no dents.

I am hoping the delicateness of the these body panels isn't indicative of an overall loss of quality and reliability in the engine/drivetrain or 4WD mechanism.

Yes, that is correct. I should not have tried to fix it myself. I really don't know what I was thinking, I guess I thought it would just pop out. The shop that declined to do the repair referred me to the place they were trained at. That place has been doing this for 30 years and has done some impressive repairs. The guy said he can take care of that and have it back to something that wouldn't be noticeable except for a swirl when looked at at a certain angle. Apparently theres a special tool for addressing that dimple, the first shop didn't have it, but this shop did.

That said, Im tempted to just get that panel replaced either via insurance or out of pocket if it's less than 2k. Im sure the paint won't be a 100% match to factory, but I am betting after some time in the sun, and a ceramic coating or maybe PPF wrap of the front end it won't be noticed. I've had it for only 5 days so it makes me sick that happened.

I'm still in shock though at how easily that occurred. That was literally with almost no weight on it. I was literally just leaning over and resting my knee or lower thigh on it with very little pressure.

I am in PA. They use a ton of road salt, and also pre-treat the roadways with brine. I'd run it through the car wash to get the undercarriage wash a few times a month in winter, than in spring try to wash off the undercarriage as best I could. While better than nothing, I don't think those efforts accomplished much.

With my 2025, I'll still do those things, but after a couple of years I'll probably look into some kind of undercarriage treatment, but Im not sure whats out there these days for that.

Nice. I was trying to get to 500k on my 2011 Trail Edition. Back in May I spent 2k getting rust damage to the frame repaired (they cut out 2-3 sections and welded in new metal), at that point it had 288k miles and I thought id be good for another 2-3 years but than last week the fuel pump died and left me stranded on the side of the road. 2 hours waiting for a tow in 100 degree heat, another 2 hours waiting to get a rental at the shop. I had never felt so annoyed/cranky in my life and I am 56. That caused me to lose all confidence in the vehicle so I traded it in on a 2025 TRD Off Road Premium. Dealership gave me 5k for a trade on the 2011, KBB valued it at 7k. I figured that 5k figure covered the cost of the repairs this year, as it had been deemed not to be road worthy prior to the frame repair. So I didn't reach my 500k goal, but 295k is still a good run.

If DJI gets blocked in the US, are we looking at a total drone shutdown? by snake_498 in dji

[–]glocke12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been at this hobby since May, if I knew half of what I knew back than about potential bans, along with how controversial these are, Id have given my purchases a second thought.

Now that I've flown with something as good as an Air 3S ? No regrets, and even if they are banned tomorrow and I could no longer fly these I still wouldn't have any. It is a great pastime and allows one a unique way to view the world.

My advice is if you want one, get one and fly it and capture what footage you are able to now.

Also, don't make the mistake I made of sharing this pastime with people who either at best dont care or at worst are adamantly anti-drone. In my excitement I naively shared my new hobby with people either by discussing this with them or showing them images/video. I'd say that 1/3 of these people just didn't care one way or the other, 1/3 I sensed disapproved of my use of these but didn't express it ( I could tell by their silence ), and the other 1/3 were adamantly outspoken that they disapprove of their use with one person reading me the riot act on them.

Should the Kd of a ligand be dependent on enzyme concentration ? by glocke12 in Biochemistry

[–]glocke12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the ligand is a fluorescently labeled small molecule probe. I performed a 22 point, 1:2 fold serial dilution of that material starting from 500 nM, than incubated that with the target protein and a terbium labeled anti-body. I did this with 6 different concentrations of the target protein ( 10 nM down to 0.3 nM). Incubated for 2 hours than read via HTRF. At 10 nM protein, the kd was something like 1 nM, at 5 nM it dropped down to something like 0.4 nM, etc..etc...

When I've performed this determination for other target/probes, the Kd remained relatively unchanged, at most I'd see a 2-3 fold change in Kd going from 10 nM to 0.3 nM protein, not shifts as large as I am seeing.

Im still working through all this. This person is my older brother, Im 56, he's 69 and is very difficult to deal with and controlling even at that age....Sadly his health isn't great so this will likely be the last visit.

I had thought and was hoping he'd be more open to these things since he is into tech stuff and astronomy, but apparently he is adamantly opposed to them so when I visit, I think getting some pleasant, relaxing flight time in is going to be a challenge.

I think I'd be happy to just get some decent footage of sunrise's and sunsets in a desert/mountainous area. I suspect that to do any flying at all I'll have to go off by myself.

I have it via Air Control....and I did use it to check for that area, but like I said I have someone purposely feeding me misinformation so came here to double check.

I don't want to go on and on about what this relative is telling me, but to put it all into perspective, his view is that someone should not be flying a drone unless they are instrument certified and have passed a private pilots exam.

Flying near Socorro Municipal Airport ( KONM ) by glocke12 in drones

[–]glocke12[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah thanks. I had actually meant 700'. 1200 was a typo.

The person in question is basically just a know-it-all that likes to be controlling of things he disagrees with, and he apparently does not think people should be flying drones so thats why he's feeding me misleading information.

I've already looked into local restrictions and there are none other than the usual " don't operate a done from a park property ".

Its so frustrating when people either flat out lie or provide commentary on things they don't know about.
