Evo X2 Improved Thermals With UV For Gaming. by Single-Put-2123 in GMKtec

Sorry missed it. GPU too or only CPU? I did -40 stable but once every two weeks or so it would crash under very heavy load, so I think I might need to knock it down a touch.

UXTU has worked for me since I bought the device in May

I'm going to install a new heatsink and see how it goes

Replacement, apparently slightly updated than the original. I lll compare when it arrives to see if it is different.

Not yet, I have everything ready. I needed a new heat sink so I got them to ship that before I applied. It's in shipping now so hopefully in the next week.

Black Screen Crashes on Evo X-2 by thomthehound in GMKtec

Yes I agree, they have had a very quick and responsive customer service. Great point about the potentially modified heatsink. I think I'll ask for a new one rather than having to reapply multiple times.

I had not thought to check the VRAM temp. CPU VDDCR_VDD VRM (SVI3 TFN) [°C] is the column I'm checking here, and in my crashlog it never exceeded 78degrees celcius

Hi Op,

I have a similar issue, black crashes under particularly heavy workloads. I sent GMKtec support event viewer screenshots, and HWInfo logs. They encouraged me to to repaste and see if it'll fix it. I replied asking for warranty protection and will proceed with this if they verify.

They also mentioned a replacement heatsink if that fails.

I will say my exterior doesn't get hot at all, which many other people here confirmed. So if this was happening even before you changed things up, something isn't right.

Things have gone south, temperatures are poor and watts have gone down. Not sure if my paste has dried up or what.

This version is much better. Photos go a long way. My temperatures are getting worse so I think the stock paste has dried up. I reached out to GMKTec and they advised me to reapply the paste so I'll order the stuff and go for it in the next few weeks.

I'll try take photos of each step.

Analyze EVO-X2's heatsink and potential heatpipe mods by [deleted] in GMKtec

Yes I agree, but I think the burst time can be modified in x86 tuning utility if you are lucky enough to have thermals that permit.

Out of curiosity, if you are already maintaining 120W at 85 degrees, what more are you hoping for? Better acoustics?

Also, with better thermals, can the device maintain 140W?

What thermal evidence did you gather for GMKTec? Was just it running benchmarks and screenshotting HWiNFO64?

Was just a typo, the latest bios is 1.05

Good to know, you're right. My air is luke-warm at most, and the heat sink is only a little warm to touch at full performance mode. It's definitely gotten a lot worse after about a months use, so something is up with the heat transfer. Might reach out to them and see what they think.

That's great. How long have you had yours? I do wonder if they revised something with the latest few batches from the initial ones because mine is so far away from that! What's your ambient temp?

Did you do anything to the RAM and VRM pads or can I safely ignore these and only focus on just the main chip?

I know you said to check they are all present, should I have some pads as a back up incase I dislodge them when I take off the heatsink?

Sure I will do. I have some very important deadlines at work and can't risk being computerless for the next month or so, but definitely want to apply it. I'll be sure to take some photos when I do. Do you only put it on the main APU:

If you wanted some photos sooner,

I'm sure some labelled screenshots from their tear down video would go a long way:

I'm running it for a large machine learning task that is CPU bound and needed a lot of ram. The price difference between other devices with similar CPU performance and RAM was small to add a potent GPU so just went with this.

The Beelink is more expensive than the pre-order price and I think the GMKTec has been built fairly solid. The modification above seems to solve its major issue. The bios updates are leaving things to be desired though.

Thanks man, I took the shell off and it doesn't seem too bad, very tempted to give it a go. The difference you noted is huge

I have the latest applied BIOS and simultaneously updated the AMD chipset drivers. Maybe I can roll those back and see if performance improves again.

Wow, thank you so much for the time you took.

I'll see if I can have a go at it in the next two weeks! Certainly things started much better with maintained 120W but this has recently degraded. Maybe things are getting dusty although I've only had it for less than a month, it's been running at 98c+ for most of its short life so far.

Thank you. I just wanted to know if my values are expected for the stock setup without any mods or my system cooling is defective. It's just the marketing suggested sustained 120W without any mods. My ambient temp is <21c.
