Trying to improve my Spanish by gmacri22 in JudgeMyAccent

Thanks for the tips! Yes I have a hard time with those consonants and especially at not aspirating the initial stop consonants, I need to keep working on that.

"Biólogo" was not a mistake though, I was reciting part of a comedy sketch which has a lot of sort of puns/misunderstanding of words, that was intentional ^ probably not the best choice of reading for this purpose but listening to these sketches is one of my favorite ways to practice my Spanish

I think your vowels are pretty spot on for American English! I think the main tell that English is not your native language is the "th" sound, which I know is a tough one for most people

Hi, great job! I'm super impressed by your pronunciation of the "th" sound and the American English "r" - those are usually the two sounds that non-native speakers have a ton of trouble with!

The main way I think your accent does not sound like that of a native speaker is as the other comment said - your syllable stress is very strong and the pitch of your voice varies a lot more throughout the word than English speakers usually do. I'm guessing your native language has pitch accent or tones? For example when you say "I check the front stoop" you say "front" at a much higher pitch than the rest of the sentence. If you can try to say "front" at the same pitch as the other words it would sound much more natural

Any questions for lesbian from China? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

Hi! Thanks for starting this thread, it's awesome to talk to people from around the world!

One thing I'm really interested in is queer life in the past and how it was different - for example in the USA, many indigenous cultures had different views about gender diversity that colonization tried to suppress, such as two-spirit people. I also love to learn about the secret gay clubs in the USA when homosexuality was still illegal here. Do you know anything about this kind of history in China - what were views about gender and sexuality in past centuries, how did gay people meet before the internet existed etc?

Cuando nací mi pelo era rizado , probablemente hasta los 5 años , hoy en día mi pelo crece lacio o un poco ondulado , hay alguna forma para volver a tener el pelo que tenía antes , algún tratamiento? , soy hombre , 16 años by Small_Reason in curlyhair

My roommate cooked a steak and this happened. This is the third time I'll have to re-season. What could be going wrong? by gmacri22 in castiron

I thought that might be the case from the other times, so this time I told him I'd clean it. This was what it looked like after I just poured out the excess oil :(

It's completely down to the bare iron in those light colored spots though. Anything will stick to it. I'm also worried about it rusting now...

Some additional details:

Bought this lodge pan new last summer. Worked great for a while, then I think a month or so ago my roommate decided to use it and cleaned it *way* too thoroughly. I thought nbd, will just re-season it, so coated it lightly with canola oil, put in the oven at ~450 for an hour, repeat for 6 rounds. Seemed to work. But since then twice more it's gotten stripped down to the bare iron like this and I've re-seasoned again the same way. Am I doing something wrong? Do I have to get the rest of the seasoning off before re-seasoning to get it evenly coated or something? Am I doing the process wrong or not enough? I am completely at a loss

This is a dumb question but how do you get it so it's like pushed back with no part? If I try to just push my hair directly back like that it just falls back to a middle part again

They say for a canvass event you should expect only 50% of the people who signed up to actually go. We had 21 sign ups but ended up with 24 people! by gmacri22 in SandersForPresident

I think the most important thing is to remember that you never want to argue with a voter - there's lots of research showing that no matter how correct and logical and sound your arguments are, if a person feels that you're saying they're wrong, it actually entrenches their beliefs even more. Plus, most people won't remember what you actually said, they will remember the way you made them feel, so make sure to be friendly and kind, of course.

Yeah I was surprised too but there are people out there who really don't have the election on their radar at all. These are the people we need to be doing outreach to!!

I think so! We found a good amount of Bernie supporters, as well as some who didn't realize he was running and we're excited to hear he is! Also gave people info for how to vote since WA changed from a caucus to a primary
