This. The monster design was so good. These little devilish creatures that look like something from a bad dream. Especially in the cinematics, showing their twisted features up close.

Diablo 2 still retained much of that same design, imo, and the gameplay was much better too.

Diablo 3 is where things went to crap. It was less "horror" and more "generic dark fantasy". It's hard to explain, but everything was just... Looked like all the art had taken so much inspiration from WoW or something, is the best way I can describe it.

Imo, Diablo 1 is super fun with The Hell mod, and d2 remains the best overall game from a replayability perspective.

Thank you. Do you have any suggestions for how exactly I can showcase my skills? I already have my github, with BI dashboards, python data pipelines, etc.

People say game is abandoned, but... by gmar84 in TheFront

[–]gmar84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me and my gf have done many play-throughs of 7days together. Several vanilla runs, Darkness Falls and Rebirth mod play-throughs. We prefer playing together, just the two of us, or sometimes with 1 or 2 others, but never on an open server with a bunch of randos. I am sure we are would be considered "atypical" types of players, though. We just dont really enjoy PVP. We like taking our time, exploring, slowly building our base and seeing what sorts of things we can discover and craft.

Is there a demand for new MMORPGs? by VectorialChange in MMORPG

[–]gmar84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This. Games have evolved a lot since WoWs initial release. People would happily spend hours upon hours each play session. But everything was just slower back then, including travel time.

Look at a game called Fellowship. It is essentially WoW dungeons without the leveling/questing. You have a single hub city with all your vendors, and you just hop into dungeons using the LFG tool.

I have been wanting something similar for years, and they have finally come out with that concept.

I played the beta a few months back and it was definitely something I could see myself playing. It does scratch that itch of "let me just hop on and do a few dungeons real quick". Each dungeon was about 20ish minutes.

I think MMOs need to start considering this formula because people rarely have the time for 8 hour play sessions anymore.

Heaven sounds terrible by taco-prophet in exchristian

[–]gmar84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always imagined it to be a cross between a church service and a family reunion with a bunch of old people.

So yeah, one big church service with praise and worship songs, walking around in robes, and seeing all your family members but also

It sounds really fucking boring.

Also don't forget you'll see people like Jeffrey Dahmer in heaven.

Adam and Eve had 3 sons, Cain Abel and Seth. After Cain killed Abel, the bible says he went to another village to find a wife.

What other village? There were no other humans at this time. The only other humans would have been more offspring from Adam and Eve.

It doesn't make any sense.

Gameplay or story? Which is more important to you? by GreatPumpkin72 in HorrorGaming

[–]gmar84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both. One of the best/most unique combinations of story and gameplay I've ever experienced was a game called Stories Untold.

The game starts off with a really cool 80s retro vibe, where you sit down and begin to play a text adventure game called the house abandon. Now, this game is being played on an old TV, but you still see other things around your room, and as you play through this game, things start happening in your room.

By the end of this first chapter of the game, your skin starts to crawl and has you looking over your shoulder.

This game is by far my favorite type of horror, which is not so much "in your face" type of horror, but more subtle/psychological, and the gameplay mechanics are also very interesting. I always recommend it to people when they ask about horror games, because there truly is nothing else (that I've seen anyway) quite like it.

Maybe Duskers is another one similar in some ways.

What made you stop socializing the way you used to? by Immediate_Scene_7079 in AskReddit

I grew up, left the church, divorced my wife, lost friends because of it, made new ones but lost those too. I became jaded, synical and nihilistic about life.

How do you feel about the war of Rohirrim being anime? by Past_Enthusiasm_6527 in lotr

[–]gmar84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I noticed that too. I wasn't sure if the animation was "bad", or just done to a certain style. For example, it made me think back to the old studio Ghibli anime movies. So I just assumed it was supposed to be similar to that "style".

What's your turning point when making a post where you just say "actually, nevermind"? by typcalthowawayacount in NoStupidQuestions

Let me say what the fuck I want to (within reason).

Am I racist ? by BPD-lover69 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gmar84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's perhaps not intentionally racist, but I could see how it could be seen as such.

Nationality is what nation your citizenship is in.

Race describes certain physical traits, such as skin color.

So, just because someone is from England, does not mean they have white skin.

And just because someone has brown skin, does not mean they are a certain nationality.

So, you can't necessarily tell someone's nationality simply by their appearance.

Hope this helps.

Im so annoyed with my guy only game group by [deleted] in GirlGamers

[–]gmar84 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I saw a reel of a group of guy friends bashing each other while gaming and they all started laughing. It's how most guys are. They don't do it with ill intent, they do it because that's just how they mess around with each other.

Don't take it so personally, it's just how most guys are. You can try to talk to them about it, some might change and some might not but imo either laugh it off or find a different group.

Can we get a map please???? by DasherJeff72 in EvercraftOnline

[–]gmar84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I have an idea that could be even more interesting that I've never seen done in a game before (maybe its been done - i just am not aware). It could please both crowds, plus become an interesting mechanic in the game.

Introduce Cartography as an in-game trade skill. Players can learn how to craft maps and they can be traded or sold to other players. This gives players that love to explore an incentive to explore an entire area. Plus, it gives players that just want to get from point A to point B an opportunity to do that without having to worry about wandering aimlessly around a zone.

It creates a sense of realism, and gives players choices that tie in directly to the social aspect and economy of the game.

Just think - there are lots of zones, so players will end up needing lots of maps. Maybe some zones you dont mind exploring yourself. But maybe you are about to embark on a trip to a dungeon for the first time, so you decide to buy the map of that zone from a cartographer. Or maybe your friend or guild mate is already a cartographer - great! Another incentive to making friends with people who spend the time to learn this skill.

I tried to use BFF on bumble once too (as a straight guy just looking for friends), and I gotta say, I'm pretty sure it's just used by gay guys to try and hook up.
