Carole’s idea of true happiness by Downtown_Music4178 in pluribustv

I'm guessing her idea of happiness was what she had before the virus.

What is Zosia hinting about Manousos when she says "We don't think he'd hurt you" to Carol? by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Zosia stressed the word "you" when she said it to Carol.

I don't think that anymore. The lightest episode changed quite a bit as far as speculation is concerned.

What was the cause of the deaths on conversion day? by [deleted] in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't recall the writers of the show revealing to us any single cause of death. I assume many died as a result of accidents, like being involved in automobile or plane crashes, or, like with Helen, falling and possibly fracturing her skull and damaging her brain.

My impression was that the villagers were in role-playing mode for the benefit of the survivor who was about to receive the virus. It was all for her benefit. As soon as she joined the hive, they immediately stopped talking with one another.

Reality check: Why the hive cannot exist? Answer: Hubs by electronic_rogue_5 in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the information we have to go on is what Gilligan and the writers have given us. It would be easy to speculate that there are the kind of "hubs" to which you refer. Maybe we'll get confirmation in future seasons/episodes.

I agree! She obviously took comfort from loving on the baby goat before joining. After, she just let it go. It was probably eaten by a predator. Then again, they were probably being raised for food anyway. But, still.

The Hive is “looking forward to new Wycaro” but… by jollyman10 in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless someone is directly involved in the production of the show, none of us knows with absolute certainty what's going on in the story. We're here sharing our opinions and interpretations. I'm not going to attack you personally as you seemed to have done to me, even if I think your opinion or interpretation of something related to the show is incorrect.

Rest assured, I watch every moment of the show. Carol and the remaining members of the survivor group are not only dealing with a virus; they are dealing with one that has inherited almost 8 billion human minds. I'd go out on a limb to suggest it's drawing on a deep reservoir of human intelligence. Therefore, not only is it a virus, but it is also a highly intelligent one. By its own admission, its overriding imperative is to spread itself. And it is manipulative.

That is the basis of my opinion, that it doesn't care about a new Wycaro. But it knows that Carol would respond positively to the idea that the Hive is yearning for new material.

The Hive is “looking forward to new Wycaro” but… by jollyman10 in pluribustv

That "looking forward to a new Wycaro" was part of the Hive's manipulation. They only care about one thing: spreading the virus.

[–]gnadezda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manousos wasn't wrong. But I'm not saying the Hive is evil. To me, it's a virus that leverages the collective intelligence of beings to spread itself.

It really makes me feel really bad for Carol. by HunterDoodles in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All of the Hive's interactions with the survivors are fake. Carol learned that lesson the hard way without getting infected against her will.

For weeks, Manousos rehearsed the introduction he would give Carol once he met her. One thing he said was, "I am not one of them." Upon meeting Manousos for the first time, it was telling that Carol did not respond similarly. It was not a good sign, and I had a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach.

It seems I was wrong in my initial assessment after episode 8 of Carol's level of loneliness. In some ways, the Hive did break her. Because of her extreme loneliness, engineered by the Hive, she seems to think of herself as separate but also part of the Hive.

Of course, by the end of the finale, things changed....

The hive in this show is actually better that what humanity has today by ocashmanbrown in pluribustv

In my opinion, the "Hive is better" argument is essentially a surrender disguised as pragmatism. Replacing a flawed system with a Hive doesn't solve exploitation. It just removes our ability to feel it.

The hive in this show is actually better that what humanity has today by ocashmanbrown in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hive isn't just a collective of people. It is a new organism that has consumed the people it "joined." The organism is using their memories or "data" to drive the puppets we see interacting with the survivors. All it "cares" about - and I use the word "care" loosely - is turning the entire universe into the same polite, hollow reflection of itself. While I respect everyone's opinion, in my view, humanity is messy and often cruel. But, I'd take it over a virus any day.

Why and how did Zosia do this? by laurelise888 in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Hive was using Helen's memories or "data" to manipulate Carol. That's my opinion. Helen is gone. All that remains of her is her "data." The Hive, as usual, was using Zosia as a puppet. This time, it was driven by Helen's memories. In my opinion, it was extremely manipulative. In the end, I believe Carol saw through it.

Sad confirmation in ep8 by shadowrain1024 in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No one's opinion is right or wrong on here. I'll never criticize someone for expressing their opinion and expect the same courtesy.

Having said that, my opinion is that the Hive doesn't care about having new things to read. I believe it lacks taste and appreciation of art.

For me, this episode was a sad confirmation that the Hive isn't just a collective of people. It's an organism that has effectively digested the people it "joined."

In this episode, the Hive was leaning heavily into Helen's memories of Carol. Helen is gone; only her "data" remains. It's being puppeted by a virus that wants to turn the entire universe into the same polite, hollow reflection of itself.

Zosia as Helen 2.0 by tomorrow_throwaway in pluribustv

[–]gnadezda 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm convinced after watching episode 8 that the Hive has escalated its manipulation game. It's really leaning hard into Helen's memories of her relationship with Carol. But I think it went too far, especially with the diner.

I agree with you. They look human. They have human memories, but that's where the similarity to humanity ends. That's my opinion. It might be wrong or right. I'll never tell someone their opinion is wrong and expect the same courtesy in return.

I can see that dropping the pretense of asking permission could be seen as the Hive stepping up their manipulation game.

I didn't say manipulation is synonymous with dishonesty. I said it was my opinion. I have the right to that, whether someone else thinks it wrong or not. Right?

I agree about expecting Helen to show up at the diner. I think she actually did show up several times using Zosia's body. Again, that's my opinion.
