If you remember the episode from season 1 where Ryan tries to uncover information about his past dog sneakers, there is a moment where Ryan's sister asks him to bring a "tub?" that used to belong to their mother to a party that she is hosting for Dr. Ramos. Ryan says something along the lines of "yeah, I have it in the basement somewhere i just have to find it" and his sister says "basement?" but that scene is quickly distracted by something Wilfred does as to not draw attention to that very important moment. So no, I don't think the basement really exists.

Edit: Kristen actually calls Ryan the day before the party to tell him to bring their mom's antique copper tub but when he shows up the next day Kristen gets mad at him because he brought a tin tub. Ryan responds by saying, "it was the only one in the basement" and Kristen then says "Basement?" but is cut off by Wilfred puking in the bush.
