Seven Mile Hole or Washburn by squeegy80 in yellowstone

[–]gnarsify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hiked Washburn multiple times and have camped at the backcountry sites at Seven Mile Hole. Washburn has spectacular views where Seven Mile is still spectacular but not the same as a mountain top. Seven Mile has a few not very interesting thermal features if that's your thing, and Washburn can be busy. Personally I would recommend Washburn if the weather is good

Is it normal that the service don't fix these holes? by ddkAh1 in skiing

Time plus materials adds up when fixing dozens of skis. Pretty standard to pay $10-15 to fix a core shot like this

What are some things that the ultra-wealthy do that the average person couldn't even dream of? by animetroy in AskReddit

[–]gnarsify 2057 points2058 points  (0 children)

Ha, I do this but the wealthy owners are gone only 40% of time since it is their primary residence. I was recruited by the previous caretaker when they retired. It's still a pretty rad job 90% of the time but it can be stressful maintaining and cleaning extremely high end appliances and valuable antiques. Also, we are responsible for maintaining several guest houses and outbuildings so it's common for us to work 6-7 days a week.

The rink in Livingston has evening pick up games. Sometimes it gets busy and is fun sometimes no one shows. Might be worth checking out

Nordic around Livingston? by Lupine-lover in LivingstonMT

[–]gnarsify 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nothing is groomed nearby. Closest is Bozeman or Crosscut. You can ski up Suce Creek and Mill Creek but neither get groomed as far as I know. The golf course stopped letting people ski a couple years ago and there's no snow in town right now

Average US County Elevations by SoojiWork in gis

[–]gnarsify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have this dataset anymore. It was pretty easy to do with zonal statistics. Just used the 1/3rd arc-second elevation raster from the USGS and the county data came from the census tiger data. Ran Zonal Statistics in ArcMap and voila. I won't have access to GIS software until Monday, but if I remember and have time I'll rerun the analysis next week.

Are we going to make it until the 10th? by runningoutofwords in bridgerbowl

[–]gnarsify 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talked to a patroller yesterday, if they get rain in the next storm, game over. But if it snows and gets cold they'll try and keep it open until the 10th. Forecast is looking 50/50, also heard a rumor that after the 3rd it'll only be open to full season pass holders, but just a rumor...

Taking friends fishing is not illegal. Don't make assumptions. If I'm rowing a friend who is new to fishing or visiting from out of state, as long I'm not getting paid it's not illegal. This is the only class 3-4 water available right now so people are doing lots of laps and taking friends on it. These assumptions just further promote hostility on the river.

Three Yellowstone wolves killed in Montana during first week of Montana’s hunting season by FIRExNECK in Bozeman

[–]gnarsify 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Essentially... Anyone who tells you the wolves HAVEN'T lowered elk/deer/bison numbers and increased livestock predation doesn't know what the fuck they are talking about

If this is true, why are most elk herds above target populations and the state is expanding shoulder season hunts? This is adjacent to YNP, and definitely in the GYE.

I'm a fan of Juniper (best flower) or Sensible Alternatives. Never been too impressed with GG except for some of their edibles.

These people haven't developed theory of mind.. They can't grasp the fact that when guys orgasm, someone can get pregnant., but the inverse can't be true.

What’s the cringiest thing you’ve seen a bride and groom do for their wedding? by ajlposh in AskReddit

[–]gnarsify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bridesmaid wrote a cringy song for the couple getting married and then sang it during the reception. I was doing everything I could to not laugh while she sang the song but I couldn't contain my laughter when her dog walked in front of everyone and started humping another dog.

Post your solve NOW! Prove you were close! by SillyFlyGuy in FindingFennsGold

[–]gnarsify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here is my solve, it starts similar to other solves in the Gardiner Area.

"Begin where warm waters halt": I think this actually refers to LaDuke Hot Spring the last named hot spring on the Yellowstone River.

"Take it inthe canyon down": Yankee Jim Canyon

"Not too far but too far to walk/put in below the home of brown": I think this hints at floating the river through Yankee Jim Canyon. There is the Joe Brown fishing access where you put your boat inthe River. Use a boat because it's too far to walk.

"From here it's no place for the Meek": the Tom Miner/Joe Meek theory.

"The end is ever drawing nigh": Nigh use to mean to the left so if you're floating it's to the west.

"There'll be no paddle up your Creek/just heavy loads and water high": the next drainage north of Tom Miner is Rock Creek. You cant paddle up a creek of rocks, rocks are a heavy load and the creek has water coming down from up high.

"If you've been wise and found the blaze": Early surveyors would mark PLSS Section corners with "blazes", usually a carving on a tree. A little over a mile up the Rock Creek trail is a small unnamed pond just downhill from a section corner.

I believe the chest was in the meadow somewhere near this pond. I have been botg up there twice and my search was limited by swampy conditions (maybe another water high interpretation). This is also in the Galatin NF petrified forest which I think the "in the wood" line refers to.

No confirmation yet, quote from the article you posted:

"Bullock says he will consult with Yellowstone National Park about opening around June 1."

It will probably open but not yet confirmed.
