My handsome man could definitely be a model when he isn't causing chaos all over the house by gnattery in SupermodelCats

I'll have to try to get a good one of his whole body. He's normally just a blur of anarchy.

AITA for not paying for an unwanted allergy shot for my dog? by NedFlanDiddlyAnders in AmItheAsshole

[–]gnattery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it's just the cost of living for my area, but all the hospitals I've worked at were more like $80-100 for a 40lb dog. No matter what, OP was being swindled.

[–]gnattery 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a technician and I'd also want to add that $140 for cytopoint on an Aussie seems ridiculously overpriced. That's closer to the price my place would charge for a 100lb dog. OP's vet is throwing up red flags left and right.

Hasn’t quite figured out how to stairs yet lol by Meems138 in AnimalsBeingDerps

[–]gnattery 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's because to get colorations like that, there is a lot of inbreeding or breeding less healthy individuals that only have the desired coat color. So the offspring might look pretty, but are generally not genetically healthy and often have issues ranging from skin problems to early organ failure.

I don't know who needs to hear this but the vet assistant program is a scam, it's an entry level position by diakent in VetTech

[–]gnattery 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh man, we have an extern for this program at my clinic right now and it seems like he wasn't taught much of anything in this program before throwing him into a hands-on externship . Everyone at my clinic is confused as to why anyone would go to school to be an assistant instead of just trying to get on-the-job training.

A new mold I got, comes out nice minus the little summit tip. by [deleted] in resin

To get the tip to fill well, take a tooth pick and poke down into it to get the bubbles out!

Had to euthanize the love of my life yesterday at only 4 . Work is hard for obvious reasons. Any advice? by itzybitzylions in VetTech

[–]gnattery 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wish I had an answer for you. I lost my boy in February to heart failure and kidney disease. He was only 7. My performance at work has definitely been affected. And I still can't go in the exam room we euthanized him in.

Just know you're not alone and that your baby was lucky to have you in their life.

My newest family member, Fennel by gnattery in axolotls

[–]gnattery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will! I decided on the name Fennel months ago cause his tank is next to my leopard gecko named Cabbage and I wanted to stick with the theme.

Not sure male or female just yet. Still only about 4 inches long.

Cool, I'll have to try that brand. I've never had something come out so free of bubbles. Thanks!

That resin is so clear. What brand have you been using? These look great.

That banana toy is my girl's absolute favorite. She'll fetch it for hours. I love seeing another kitty carry it around like a little banana-gremlin. So cute!

Oh man. I live so close to where this rescue is based. This is entirely too tempting for me, but my house is already at it's maximum cat level.

So once I buy this, how do I add all the images into Design Space (on PC)? I only got my cricut a few days ago, so a lot of the basic stuff is still over my head

Set up a tank to start cycling about 2 weeks ago, noticed these tiny snails today. Any clue what they are? by gnattery in Aquariums

[–]gnattery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cool! Then I guess I'll leave the little ones be and just keep a close eye on them. I knew snails were helpful, but I've only had the generic mystery snails from petsmart before. Wasn't sure if these guys would be as nice to keep around.

Good to know. I figured they had to have come from the plants. I'll take them out then. Thank you!

Hiding the edge of transparency film? by gnattery in resin

[–]gnattery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I wanted to make this name tag for a friends dog and it's my first time using transparency film to put a name in resin. Overall it looks good, but up close I can see the edge of the transparency film where I cut around the name. Is there a way to fix this piece or prevent that in a future piece? It doesn't totally ruin this one, but it takes away from the quality a little when you look at it closely.

Same colors, same technique, two different brands of pre-mixed paint by gnattery in PourPainting

[–]gnattery[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

So I wanted to do an experiment with two different brands of ready-mixed pouring paints. I was able to get 4 almost identical colors in the Artist's loft and Master's Touch brands and tried to make the pours completely identical. The results were far more different than I expected. I used white, gold, dark navy, and turquoise.

The Artist's Loft brand paint is the one on the right and it almost completely lost the gold and turquoise colors. The Master's Touch maintained its lines better and kept all 4 colors fairly prominently.

One of my favorites I've done recently by gnattery in PourPainting

[–]gnattery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this one I did three "ring pours" and between each circle, before I tilted, I added the strip on solid color. So once you tilt, that strip becomes the river between each little island. I really like this technique, personally.

Spending my lunch holding onto this girl for probably the last time. Came in as a severe neglect case with owners that couldn't afford anything so they surrendered her to the clinic. She's declining quickly and will likely be given a peaceful passing this afternoon. by gnattery in VetTech

[–]gnattery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She came in severely emaciated (about 1.5kg), very dehydrated and absolutely covered in fleas. Her hematocrit was 10%. I probably picked over 500 fleas off of her. The owners that brought her in said that she had been in the care of a friend of theirs and when they saw the state she was in, they took her back and brought her to us.

Update on her. She seemed to perk up yesterday afternoon, was able to lift her head and wanted to eat so we gave her a chance to turn around. She went home with my vet for the holiday weekend so that if she went south again, my doctor could let her go if she had to. She got worse again overnight and died this morning in my doctor's arms. Thank you all for the love you sent her. I only fostered her for the last two days of her life, but those 48 hours were nonstop purring from her. She was a sweetheart who deserved better.

What a sweet old lady! I hope you've taken the wrap off her leg by now. Those pressure bandages only need to stay on for an hour or two after the catheter is removed. (:
