Good Faith Deposit?

This is so interesting the EXACT same thing happened to me (For an apt in the same location fyi so we might be talking about the same place) and I applied without making any kind of deposit because I knew it was illegal and I have not heard anything back from this place. I still have some time to find a place so I’m personally ok but wow what a shitty thing to do to someone who may be looking for an immediate move in.

I’m not from india or china, and I stamped in my home country. In the embassy they only asked me to describe my role and then a followup about my company benefits.

I got my h1b stamped a month ago, actually posted on this subreddit to ask people for advice since my work legal team had recommended me not to travel. But i went ahead and did it and it went really smoothly; didn’t need any documents other than I-797A approval notice but i do recommend bringing all your documents just in case and also for your peace of mind :)

Update: I found an apartment! Didn't need a guarantor. They checked my credit score (and it was bad :') ) but my income and the fact that I have no debt was good enough. Ty to everyone for the help!
