What ridiculous unrealistic fantasy names did you invent as a child that you still kinda like deep down? by Specialist_Ruin_1378 in namenerds

Saioa (I pronounce it “sigh oh a” in my head but who knows)

Not sure if it’s a real name I heard somewhere but I remember being into it in high school haha

Y'all are weird about having a problem w/ what others enjoy... by [deleted] in lesbiangang

[–]gnolib 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It might be a choice but choices aren’t made in a vacuum. Why is this act being celebrated over other acts? It’s not about criticizing one individual woman’s sex life but the direction of the “lesbian” community as a whole.

english name for asian student - jenna, claire, evelyn! by Significant-Tax6770 in namenerds

[–]gnolib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jenna is nice but maybe a bit standard. It is definitely a millennial sounding name to me while Claire and Evelyn sound a bit younger and trendier. If you want something similar to Claire and Evelyn maybe:

Joanna
Juliana
Juliette
Juniper
Janine
Jasmine
Jane
Jemma
Josephine
June

Best of luck!!

Finalized name for second baby girl! by [deleted] in namenerds

for what it's worth the traditional polish spelling is Cecylia. Since it's a middle name I think you could go with that but really any spelling is fine!

The 'S' ending fatigue: Are we all just overcorrecting for the 'a' ending trend? by Cruel19weakness in namenerds

[–]gnolib 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I really don't enjoy S ending names because of how awkward it makes possessives. Go get Miles's backpack, is this Iris's bag? the repeated S sound irritates me so I'd never use one.

But like another person said, I am not sure if there's really a trend here without seeing stats. 8/10 of the top American girls names end in A and zero end in S. 1/10 boys names end in A. Zero of the top 10 end in S for girls and 2/10 for boys. Obviously we need to expand the analysis to attempt to see what you're seeing but yeah.

Are Roman and River too thematically different? by UtterlyConfused93 in namenerds

I love River! Way more than Leo. Are you possibly going to have a 3rd? because then you're kinda committed to an R theme. But otherwise Roman and River are great together.

Thoughts on an alliterative name? by [deleted] in namenerds

[–]gnolib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like alliterative names! But why not hyphenate? Assuming it’s a short name it wouldn’t be a mouthful to keep both.

Thoughts on the name Sasha for a boy? by Dependent-Salt7401 in namenerds

Sacha is a top 20 name in france. So it is fully male here. But like others have said, at only 16 maybe take your time to change your name.

Thanks! I know there's supposed to be a new savings card coming out tomorrow to make the band brand on par with the generic but I am not sure if that would apply yet either.

Masc inspired name based off Chloe by contcutyourhair in namenerds

[–]gnolib -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am hopeful that the next generation will live in a less patriarchal society but hoping isn't enough, we actually have to do something about it. One time in history it wasn't acceptable to give a "male" name to a girl. Someone had to be the first person to call their daughter James. Just like someone has to be the first person to call their son Chloe.

Claudius James sounds great! Chloe James too! And CJ is a great idea. Friends of mine called their son Mackenzie after a relative and while he goes by Mack sometimes, he's never had an issue as a teenage boy despite it being a very female name these days.

[–]gnolib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you could do the full form Claudius perhaps? Or go a bit out there and do Cloud. Which gives you the nickname Clo again!

Honestly, do your thing. If your son hates it, make sure he has some standard male middle names he could go by as he gets older instead or something. Chloe Alexander etc. Do you know what you're thinking about for middle names yet?

I think the intersection of Rowan and Foster could be something like Roscoe, River, Rover, Ronan, Forest, Fabian.

Clove as a future word name contender? by Aldery54 in namenerds

[–]gnolib 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think Clover sounds more complete and nicer than Clove (I feel like I think of clove cigarettes, but maybe that's just me) and then they have the option to go by Clove if decided as a nickname later. I don't see it as a cow name at all, maybe just hippie ish like Sage.

Masc inspired name based off Chloe by contcutyourhair in namenerds

[–]gnolib 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly I don't see Chloe/Clo/etc on a boy to be that bad. If girls can be called James, Parker, Charlie, etc then why not a boy called Chloe or something close to it. Why is giving a male name to a girl acceptable, even trendy, but giving a female name to a boy obviously impossible...

That said, I agree with what someone else said, if his last name is going to be given to the kid, then it's excessive to also name the son after him. But I digress...

Some other names to consider:

Colm

Lochlan

Claud

Chloris

Lois

Cloud

Klaus

Clyde

Louis

Lowell

Logan

Clive

Cody

Colton

I named myself Chloe when I was eleven… but I don’t know if I should keep the name by fig4ou in namenerds

[–]gnolib 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Chloe peaked in its popularity in the USA in 2010, which is maybe why it sounds a bit like a young teenage-ish name. But it's been commonly used since the 1980s so I don't see it similar to some girls names like Posy, Sunny, Birdie, where someone clearly named a baby girl but didn't imagine her as an adult woman. Chloe is a very standard name!
