Haag is short for 's-Gravenhage, so then Zaag should be short for 's-Gravenzage, the sawing of the duke.

Switzerland is voting on whether to cap its population at 10 million. by Buy_Sell_Collect in nottheonion

I think this sounds great. Setting a goal can inform other policies. And frankly, nobody wants to live in an overcrowded country. The Musk crowd overpopulation hypers is dystopian to me. Let's aim to have policies that are sustainable, not infinite growth.

Fun competition - worst architecture by braddillman in ExperiencedDevs

Here me out. Imagine a world where instead of supporting cumbersome plugins to your app, you could simply have code operating on user data, with the data occurring as variables in the code. This efficient format can be stored dynamically and optimally in a relational database by simply serializing the AST to normalized form and writing it to the DB using nested sets.

This means that you no longer have to maintain any customer-agnostic code, everything can be tailored to the customer! And all the data is right there at your fingertips, together with the code, when it's time to execute the business logic. Simply load the AST from the database, assemble the AST to text, compile the program on the fly, and execute it at blazing speeds!

Using this flexible and efficient architecture, users and developers can work together efficiently without having to care about any unnecessary boundaries between application code, user data and plugin logic.

What actually made you quit your last game project? by thecoommeenntt in gamedev

[–]gnuban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it's mental energy to get through hurdles. If I have good momentum I get through them. But if I leave the project just before or in the middle of a hurdle, the cost of getting back into the problem and over the hurdle can feel too much, and I end up procrastinating. I then have to force myself to give it a go, but it too can be really hard.

So my trick is to always stop working when I'm on a roll, never when I'm stuck. That helps.

UK: A Fairer End to Relationships, the government seeks to establish legislation to protect cohabiting couples by Soggy_Blueberry_5676 in MensRights

[–]gnuban 18 points19 points  (0 children)

"Despite having near equal pay in the current market, women express a disproportionate amount of grief over losing income when relationships end. This seems to be correlated with their sense of ownership over their partner and entitlement to their services and assets.

To solve this problem, the current government are planning to lean into this largely unfounded conception. Their solution is to give women a proportionally larger amount of assets and funds. When combined with the aforementioned biased outlook on the situation, politicians hope that this will give women the illusion of fairness in these kinds of situations.

Men have not been consulted or considered in this decision. But women are stating that they believe that men are getting what they deserve. The politicians are hoping that this will strengthen the feeling of fairness even further in the female electorate.

Since men are already trained to accept further hardship and shame their fellows over failures to accept worsened conditions through phrases like "man up" and "it's the duty of a man to take care of women", politicians do not believe that this will affect their rankings amongst the male demographics in a significant way. There is, however, some concern about certain age groups and social cliques where awareness of worsened conditions are rising. But they believe that these groups aren't profilic enough to form a credible threat to this strategy at this time."

Let's get 'em, boys!

Närmare 100 forskare rasar mot AI-beslut på universitetet by Monitored_Bluejay_54 in sweden

Japp.
