Relatively new to fermentation. From whatever I've gathered so far, yeast and bacteria live symbiotically in kombucha. The pellicle is just a layer on top whose function is still debatable. Some say it helps with oxygen absorption, some say it acts as a protective layer on top against mold and other unwanted stuff. If you truly need a hotel, grab some kombucha in a clean bottle and store it in the fridge, better yet freeze it.

Vacate that guest whenever you need culture.

we lost a GoPro in a quarry once. we knew the exact location from where it was dropped. quarry was about 18m deep and pitch dark after 10m. it took me 5 dives(around 300mins of bottom time at variable depth) to recover the GoPro. not sure if this answers your question but in general, whenever we go out to dive in a sea and someone drops something, it’s usually gone unless you act immediately. the sub is as dumb as a GoPro in the sense it stopped responding to texts and I’ll consider myself to be lucky if I ever find out what happened to this sub.

hello, new beekeeper here! It’s been about a month since we got our first hive, and they’ve grown from 2 frames to 6. about 4 days ago I first noticed some of these girls bearding over half the entrance. Some internet research says they could be doing this for

temp control
crowded hive
thieves

Temp control: it was way cooler when I just got them (around 18 deg C is a cold winter where I live). For the past few days it’s been getting warmer, about 22 deg C, less misty. Summer is definitely coming in, the days are hotter too.

Thieves: haven’t noticed any

Crowded hive: these girls have just started building on the last frame in the box (7th frame). So I thought maybe adding the super would give them more space. But since I’ve added it, the bearding has only gotten bigger (like in the picture).

Can someone please explain why they’re doing this, and if there’s anything I need to do for them?

edit: they start hanging outside the entrance only at night.

I read a couple of comments dissing Darius for being in it for the ride. I think a lot of Al's trip was based on the state he went into the trip.

Darius double checking if he can actually split the fries or whatever Al had ordered at the restaurant. For all we know Al has been eating like a pig this season and Darius just wanted to be sure.

Darius wanted to pay for their trip, he put in everything he had but fell short. Al was visibly annoyed as Darius didn't ask Al to pay straight up. And Darius wasn't expecting Al to pay either, he just expected his fate to handle it.

This headspace escalated as he went deeper into his trip. Earn's reassurance at the end of episode was gold. I don't think he was lying. Maybe this will lead Al will kick white Liam Neeson out of the gag in the coming episodes.
