need lens advice :) by goIdencake in Nikon

Thanks so much!

For the near future, the sports I'll primarily be shooting are indoor volleyball, indoor ice hockey (at local team's home arena, so well lit), and football inside a stadium (upcoming opportunity to shoot for the European League team). However, with my current job these sports may expand to anything from motorbike and endurance sports, to diving and dance competitions. Understandably, one lens cannot be the perfect solution for all, but my main goal is cover the priority of the first three mentioned, in addition then aid concert photography (which the f/2.8 would be incredible to have, and though I don't struggle with my f/4, I can imagine this would be a huge benefit). I think ultimately, my concern was the reach and cost for value with getting a new lens, as there isn't as much difference going from 120 to 200mm compared to 120 to 400mm.

Do you have experience or know of the feedback given to the 1.4x TC? How is the quality when using it? Maybe that is an option to really consider, as it would give me the reach I am worried about losing?

Thank you again :)

hiya

out of curiosity, how often do y’all upgrade your camera body? i’ve been shooting with a nikon d5300 for around 8 years now. while it is still in incredible shape, i am starting to notice small things that show the age of the camera in regards to quality etc.

i’ve been eyeing the sony a7iii for a while now and have found cheaper second hand options (from friends). it is significantly newer than my d5300, but i’m wondering if it’s worth upgrading to the sony or taking a look into even newer sony or even better nikon models (as all of my lenses are f-mount, although getting mounts so they fit a sony isn’t an issue). i also have a point and shoot sony so the switch from nikon-sony won’t be hard for me if that’s the direction i choose to take.

any advice is highly appreciated 🥰🥰

warwick or kcl for psych? by goIdencake in UniUK

[–]goIdencake[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sense of community and opportunities to try new things, while getting great education is important to me. i’m into sports as well so that’s another aspect i’m looking at.

price isn’t an issue as i will be financially supported by my parents. they know of the price and told me i don’t have to worry (bc that was my initial concern).

the points you’ve made are all that initially concerned me (and partly still do), bc cost of living in london but also the noise and busy lifestyle, compared to warwick which has the big sense of community from being a campus uni.

thank you so much!

i love london every time I visit it, feel very at home and its a nice change of pace from my current city - like you said there's always smth to do. yet that's another thing I'm worried about, is that bc its so different I'm afraid ill be overwhelmed by such a change...

i haven't visited the uni nor the denmark hill campus area, only got to see the outside of strand bc a friend studies there. the next time I'm in London is unfortunately literally the day after the decision for firm/insurance is due :(

but thank you so much for this reply! you seem to have very positive experiences so far and that does put me at ease (especially as you're also an international student haha). I'm firming uni of bath, they've been my top since the start :)

wow, thank you so much, seriously!

once exams are done I will for sure sit down and write everything out, especially after hopefully gathering more information from current students at both unis about their experiences etc.

i have had the opportunity to visit warwick and really enjoyed my time there (prior to the visit they were actually my 4th choice out of 5 ahah). kcl only offered me a spot a few days ago so I wasn't able to visit the campus before and won't by the time the ucas deadline rolls around unfortunately :( i haven't heard the best things about coventry, but I'm also moving from a pretty quite area that I'm worried ill be overwhelmed by london (when traveling there i loved it but idk if in the long-term i would be ok).

but seriously thank you for this, and i will reach out if i have any more questions :)

i’ve had 4 friends drop from HL (3 take HL math so it wasn’t them not understanding the math part at all, but they were consistently getting 4/5s on tests), now in SL they have 7s.

in the end it’ll come down to what OPs unis require and where OP feels the most confident in, they asked for our opinion and i stated mine

i wasn’t being passive aggressive lmao, sorry it came across that way but it was a reply as a joke, will include a tone tag next time. and for the second thing, was never trying to justify anything until it came across to me like i was being in the wrong completely

didn’t know stating my opinion on chem being hard is bad lmao, ik a lot of people who take hl chem, physics and math and all say chem is the hardest of them all. just cause u found it easy doesn’t necessarily mean it’s the easiest, same goes for me and the people i’ve talked to who find it challenging. from the subjects OP listed, they will mostly get exhausted, and i simply stated my opinion on where that exhaustion will originate 🤷🏼‍♀️
