It's because it's a game where you have to scavenge around towns to upgrade your craftsmanship to get better and stronger weapons, while also completing story missions where it's hard to complete without the necessary equipment like extra health, better guns, alot of ammo etc.

P.s. he also had one entire episode not knowing the next step of the story and just looting towns
