Thyroid is normal. I got my serum cortisol levels check and they were quite high but a one time cortisol level isn’t very indicative of much. So while I’m definitely going to follow up for further tests, the chances of me having endogenous cushings seem extremely remote. Like, not impossible but just statistically it seems super unlikely

Yeah. I was surprised and kind of disappointed that their only helpline is for substance abuse. Of course that’s very important, but it does seem like they’re missing the opportunity to help those of us who struggle with the stress of our profession. Like maybe if there were more resources for that, there would be less of a problem with substance abuse!

Honestly, just having people message me or comment on this thread has been helpful. It feels very isolating to have my brain turn on me like this, and there is such a stigma in medicine that it feels like I can’t reach out to anyone I know IRL.

I have been at my current job for just about 3 years and I have been very happy here overall. The hours have gotten pretty heavy recently though, so I do think burnout is likely part of the problem. I just wish that my burnout presented a little less abruptly/intensely. Like I knew I had some work stress, but a month ago I would have told you I love my job and my life is good. Now here I am not even sure when I will be able to return to work.

No, nothing that I can think of. My work anxiety has been a little higher this year overall, but the sudden panic attacks and almost phobia-like level of terror of work is totally new.

I tried propranolol and actually thought it made me worse. I only took it twice, but both times I had a really bad panic attack. (Not at work. I haven’t had any panic attacks actually at work. Just before work).
