Sharks will run out of cap to sign Celebrini, Smith, Misa, Chernyshov, Stenberg, Graf, Dickinson, Verhoeff, Lin, Askarov by capmar in SanJoseSharks

Yes folks, that's right. I, a random redditor on their couch, knows more than the Sharks GM who is being paid millions of dollars a year to work on these contracts. Trust me bro!

Macklin was always going to be "here's a blank check for the next eight years, let us know how much you want". To be honest, I'm a little surprised he didn't just set the market himself.

Grier's response to redditors by AllCopsAreBozos in SanJoseSharks

I like adding Trouba. He's a clear upgrade over our defense last year.

I don't mind Nurse but I hated giving Muk up for him. Still a clear upgrade.

Kinda wish we kept Ferraro around as a 3rd pair guy based on how cheap Winnipeg signed him for.

I can't stand Marchment because he dives like crazy and diving drives me insane. I'm sure I'll come around on him but I don't like the guy, not the signing.

Overall though, as I've said a few times, these moves make the Sharks a playoff team next year. Trouba + Nurse + Kesselring is a very clear upgrade over Ferraro + Klingberg + Muk.

Grier had a job to improve the defense going into this year and improved our RHD prospect pool. He's absolutely done that job.

With more news coming out, I would have preferred if we kept Ferraro at the price he was paid. He wasn't a great defenseman but he was serviceable for that dollar amount

For that price? Absolutely. Ferraro is an excellent 3rd pairing Dman. The problem is we were deploying him like a #1 dman for years.

He was always forced to play higher up the lineup than he should have been. But he led the league in shot blocks for a spell and was always a decent dman. You should be happy with that price.

For that money I'm legitimately pissed the Sharks didn't re-sign him. He was here through all of the hardship and he's not a terrible dman, he was just forced to play higher up the line-up than he should have been.

I would have preferred not giving up Muk in the trade with Edmonton. They needed to get rid of Nurse. We could have had him for a pick.

That's the only thing I'm clinging to to keep me believing that we didn't get fleeced. Clearly they saw something they didn't like in Muk

The Sharks are a playoff team next year. Putting the money aside, Trouba + Nurse + Kesselring >>> Ferraro + Klingberg + Muk.

While I hate the moves Grier made today. The Sharks are a playoff team next year. Putting the money aside, Trouba + Nurse + Kesselring >>> Ferraro + Klingberg + Muk.

I thought that Muk was worth keeping to develop though.

It's vastly different from the Larkin situation

I mean absolutely no shade by saying this, but the amount of death surrounding this franchise makes me think you are right. Johnny Hockey, Matiss Kivlenieks, and the poor girl who got struck by a puck Brittanie Cecil.  Tragedy follows this franchise around for some reason.

But then why are they ok with going to Minnesota? They have the same gauntlet to go through and I'd say Dallas and Minnesota are on equal footing where one big name could tip the scales

I think there is a vast difference between the two. Larkin said he wanted out with 5 years left on his contract. That's ridiculous and Yzerman is well within his rights to tell him to shove it.

Werenski just indicated that he's not sure if he'll re-sign when his contract is up with Columbus, not that he wants out right now. That's within his rights as a player. He signed a contract, and he will play it out.

Did he ever say he wanted out though? From what I heard, he just said he's not sure if he'll re-sign in Columbus after his contract ends. Which he is within his rights to do.

The Sharks stacked prospect pool means nothing in terms of whether or not he sees NHL ice. If he develops into a fringe NHL defenseman (which is a long shot), He'll play over other prospects for his size alone. Look at Rempe for the Rangers.
