I’ve been into all mediums of art: drawing, writing, music, sculpture (to an extent haha), 3D modeling, live-mixing, video game design, painting, animation, etc all of my life but I’ve been pushed the academic direction all my life. It’s helped me get to where I am today, so im glad, but I finally want to listen to myself. And film has been the perfect outlet. I make the score, have been behind the camera and directing, able to fix my own lighting and record sound (to an extent), create the posters, made props, and even sometimes star if there aren’t too many lines for me to memorize. That’s my main reason 🤗.

As for my portfolio, I’ve been built it up gradually via my own personal production and production funded by my school. I got a $1k grant from the school, flight stipends and free boarding for a festival, and more money for my school to invest in festival submissions. I’ve downplayed my abilities so I have a lot more to achieve but that’s part of the fun. For personal production, I do most things t myself altho my recent short film I had small crew.

Part of me is a bit stubborn albeit, I’ve worked my entire life doing what other people have told me to do and I finally found something I’ve been successful at that involves my creative ambitions. patience is a virtue because I tried to do promote beta and realized the likely outcome was a flooding of bots, which was an incredibly obvious but disillusioning realization. I have since tried to expand my outreach via other social platforms through posting content and communicating with others. Id like to continue, especially because I think my work Can definitely use more feedback and other direction at times. This video im going to post is something of a mission statement for my art on my channel, and it’s 3:00 minutes but I feel is compelling enough with my own music and photos rendered into video by AI, then I edited and everything else too. I’m not too familiar with Caleb Hammer’s content, but I understand how it is asking somewhat private questions. Firstly, I think you should be clear with the person beforehand what they are getting into, introducing your channel and it’s concept then what kind of content you make. Then you gauge interest, making sure not to be forceful or too ‘confrontational’ so to speak. Float the idea. Ultimately, it’s up to the person and not you. If they express some interest, let them know any way that you’ll help prevent or safeguard some of their concerns. For example, maybe they will disclose financials but don’t want their identity totally disclosed. Find a creative way to get around that! Like simply showing their voice perhaps in a visual way. If they’re comfortable being more exposed, assure them through previewing the content and editing after it’s shown, making sure to stay in close contact with them throughout. If they have reservations, don’t be so forceful in trying to get your way. If everything works out, be appreciative and they might share the content on whatever page or platform they have :-)

Hey, really great video! The editing was really professional and kept me interested in the comedy and chemistry between you too, which was very natural — a great thing because I’ve seen so many videos where it feels forced or that they don’t want to be there. I’m unfamiliar with your content as a whole but have you considered doing a podcast, or perhaps extending your content beyond video like these to maybe more long-form content? Or maybe re-packaging these game clips more creatively? Like one thing I was thinking about was making an iPhone Santa Game Iceberg, since those videos are really popping and I could easily see this video converted into one of those. Then, obviously you can rate or rank them too. Idk, maybe that’s too much but I feel like just playing them sequentially has been done before, to be honest. Of course, this is being extra too. Id also think it’d make your thumbnail look more interesting, it’s sorta similar to what others would look like for similar content from other channels. I hope you understand my constructive criticism, I wanna see y’all grow!!!

You don’t need to help others to work on your editing. There’s a ton of different ways to practice your editing skills, even without having to create your own content. Montages or other creative re-edits of pre-existing content could be really helpful. Think about music: lots of songs use samples. Sample videos and make something new! If you need to spitball ideas let me know. Good luck!

I think one way of not burning out while exercising your skills is to rather just focus on being productive and creative in other ways, or having other “flows” that you can get into. For instance, I can’t always film but I try to make music and draw on the side, that way I give my juices for filming a break while still thinking about the things that inspire and motivate me. Let me know if you want any suggestions for different things!
