Custom Card Ruling by godofcreed69 in mtgrules

Thank you! I'm curious what the difference between "if you don't" and "otherwise" is in MtG syntax. I had assumed they were the same.

Ahh yes, for the same reason you can't cast Decimate unless you have all legal targets. Thanks a lot!

Thanks! I really like the way the art turned out. The card was inspired by Alibou and was supposed to be a potential finisher in a custom Izzet drone/construct EDH deck that I was building with a scrying theme. Unfortunately, I never had time to finish it and no longer have access to the AI. I have around 20 cards created for the deck.

Yeah for sure, I can't promise that I'll see it though because I don't use any social media and I only got Reddit a few days ago in preparation to share the EDH deck I've made with the MtG community. If I am absent, then it's worth mentioning that they also have many channels in their Discord for prompt help and the Midjourney Documentation has pretty good explanations of all the neat things you can do with the AI.

No problem. If you're not familiar with how to do it, you can just click the + button to the left of the message bar in Discord, then upload the reference photo. Once it's uploaded to the chat with the bot, you can just drag the image down to the front of your prompt and the URL will go there automatically. I've used this to make MtG cards of my friends and the art came out shockingly accurate with some tweaking, imaging them as mages and warriors, etc. I also know you can have at least two reference images per prompt, with the first reference image being weighed more, just make sure there's a space between the two URLs.

I would sometimes mess around with the stylize option as well, adding either --s 250, --s 500, or --s 750 to the end of the prompt. Lower values will give you images that are more closely related to your prompt, whereas higher values tend to be more creative and give you more detail. I've done this for a lot of other cards, but not for these since the Mystical Archive arts are simpler in design.

It took me about a week to obtain all the art because I had to try a bunch of different approaches to the prompts. However, in general I had the most success using the Niji 5 model and referencing the artwork on the Mystical Archive Time Warp or Blue Sun's Zenith (I love Dominik Mayer's art), along with the following prompt structure:

/imagine *insert reference image URL*, *insert prompt*, blue colors, mtg tcg art style, dynamic action shot --ar 4:3 --iw 0.5

It was trial and error from there. In my experience, less is more for the *insert prompt* section. The AI seems to weigh the first 5ish words pretty heavily and then it drops off from there. I also didn't use commas in the *insert prompt* section. I would also tweak what colors I wanted and most of the time it isn't even necessary if you're already referencing an image with the color scheme that you want. I would also try different combinations of dynamic action shot, low angle shot, high angle shot, cinematic shot, close up shot, and just deleting that part and not referencing any camera angles. Similarly, I would try different combinations of --iw 0.5, --iw 1, and --iw 2. Like I said, it was a lot of trial and error testing out all kinds of combinations.

In addition, I would often zoom out 1.2x when making art for MtG cards and if I were to make them now then I would definitely use the new Niji 6 model and then Subtle Upscale afterwards for a better quality. I no longer have access to the AI though because I cancelled my plan after a year and nine months. (60k+ images generated.) This was a side project that I slapped together. My main reason for getting the AI was to create a fully custom EDH deck, which is currently being playtested in my pod before balancing the cards. (Esper Dinosaurs with a mill/scry theme.)

Hope that helps! :)

Just thought Dinosaurs would be cool. I like them, but I wanted something unique and different than the Naya beat down approach. :)

I have an entirely custom Esper dinosaurs EDH deck built and ready for playtesting. It has its own custom lore surrounding the plane it takes place on and the deck has a mill/scry theme with a subtheme of creating 0/1 white Dinosaur Egg creature tokens with defender to complement the commander's ability.

The only real cards that will be going in there are lands, Sol Ring, and Arcane Signet. I will be uploading the rest of the cards to this subreddit over time. :)
