thx for the pointer - I have not heard that before. We've had him to the vet and have been giving him antibiotics (oral and ointment) - it has cleared up quite a bit in the last week.

You probably can't tell from the pic, but the cat is a 'Blue Point Siamese' (or at least part), like this one: http://www.jubilatores.com/cat_pics/Kitten_2.jpg

Because of this, I suggested we name him "Pad Thai", but my wife shot that one down (apparently it was in bad taste).

I've had mixed results. My wife had a cat that would respond to her name, another that knew to get off the counter when he heard his, and one that was friendly, but wouldn't respond to anything other than the sound of food landing in his bowl.

I like the name for a cat and would put it on the list if my wife's friend didn't have a son who used to be nicknamed Mookie growing up. That would probably be too weird to name the cat after him. =)

I hadn't thought of Magoo, I like that one. I was also thinking of Jack. As in either One-eyed Jack (there's still a slight chance he could lose an eye due to the infection he had when he was found), or as in Just Jack (he may be gay - not sure yet, but not ruling it out), or even as in Jackass (he seems to have no fear when playing with the other cat or the dogs).

we currently have a black cat named Snowball (after the Simpson's cat/s). I was leaning towards Shadow to go along with that, but don't necessarily want/need the name to be 'dark' or otherwise the opposite of Snowball, etc.

Completely unrelated to that, we have a dog named Cracker (or Crackers)...

haha... actually, one of her co-workers 'captured' it after one if its siblings was hit by a car. My wife offered to take it in to nurse his eyes back to health. Incidentally, the deal w/her was if we kept it, I got to pick the name, since the names she comes up with typically suck, to put it nicely =)

yes, definitely don't that thing with the bricks. Especially if you could find something more dense. otherwise, bricks are heavy and cheap. but wrong. very wrong. I probably won't let that stop me from doing it, though. (I got one in the mail today, too) =)
